What the hell?!? 250 lbs difference!
How is it the 1992-1995 Civic Hatch Si weighs in at about 250 lbs more than the VX or CX???
I just saw this link on another post:
http://carpoint.msn.com/Vip/Specific...Civic/1992.asp
I've always known the Si was the heaviest......but WHERE does it all come from?
Sunroof, passenger side mirror, rear discs(can't be significantly heavier than drums), 14" steelies.......whats all that, maybe 100 lbs max. What else?? 250lbs is A LOT of god damn weight.

Power windows, sunroof, blah blah blah. A lot of the little things add up.

I know. From the original CRX Si and on Honda always stated that Si's would have manual windows and locks to conserve weight. At the same time they put in a sunroof.....strange.

14" wheels with hubcaps = 34-37lbs each with tires (depending on the type) vs. the VX which is only at 22-25lbs on all four wheels thats about 40-50lbs
gas tank at 45l vs 38l for VX and CX
cruise control = 3-4lbs
rear hatch cover = 5-10lbs
spare wheel/tire 13" vs 14" = 2-5lbs
front sway bar vs no swaybar (VX/CX/DX) = 4-6lbs
rear discs vs drum combo = 15-20lbs
this should account for the other 70-100lbs

having owned both a '92 Si, and now a '92 CX...i can tell you, there is NOT a difference in 'sound deadening'..there might be more of whatever honda calls 'sound deadening' in the Si, but the effect of it cannot be heard in any way whatsoever....both cars have cow dung for sound deadening/vibration dampening.
The Si's do NOT have power locks or power windows. but even if they did, a power door lock system weighs no more than about 5 pounds per door. window system isn't too heavy either. maybe 10-12 pounds between both systems per door.
I have an entire cruise control system, an entire rear wiper system (i'm talking all wires, harnesses etc with both systems), and a rear cargo shelf. guess how much they all weigh together on the scale? 9.93 pounds. i know my scale is right because my 40lb dumbells register in at exactly 40.0lbs.
the rear disc brake system doesn't/shoudn't weigh anymore than a drum system. you ever picked a each one up? it's not too terribly different, if at all.
so this leads me to the following for why they weigh more: sunroof (boy that's a heavy system). sway bars. gas tank volume, although i've been told honda's listed weights are empty, so it shouldn't be a factor in the stock listed weights. wheels. and A/C..although almost every cx/vx i've seen has had a/c. i guess only you guys with forgiving climates can physically stand to have a bone stock VX. you can factor in the cargo shelf, power mirrors, and the rear wiper system but that's really only going to be about 15-16 pounds (don't fight me on this..i've weighed them).
