That's what I was thinking. His motor must be fubar. Does it run rough? Pull the spark plugs and check them out first...

ive got a 89 dx 4dr beater.

hey one thing guys, the gas guage didnt work in my DX cluster, so I put a 89 CRX Si cluster in it. the only thing that works is the speedometer. but it still throws a code 17. the tach and temp needles jump all around its crazy. any thoughts?

I have a '91 LX and it doesn't have a fuel gauge. It's the only Honda I've owned (out of about 14 or so) that doesn't have a fuel guage.

It doesn't have a fuel gauge; are you sure you aren't confusing it with no tach?

Sounds like you bought a lemon. Sounds to me like the timing belt snapped at some point, probably bending some valves or the rods and he replaced the belt and it crank up but ran like **** so he decided to sell it and be dishonest about it.

You can do a compression test. Any autoparts store should rent the testers out for around $20. Here's the instructions: http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto/c...t/comptest.php

post your results. You should see every cylinder within 20% of each other and they should all be over 100.

It has a tach and fuel guage, but no "gas light" or low fuel warning.

I dotn think any ef has a low fuel light, minus an SIR model. I dont go below half tank anyway, don't want to run the walbro low or lean out.
