yea thats about right. USDM clusters are way off with these motors though. mine was 1400 RPM off (low) at peak power last time i was on a dyno.

I'm sure it has is advanatges though.
I'm just trying to figure out if its worth the wait when using a LS tranny or should I want it to kick in faster with a b16 tranny

B16 tranny imo, i have a LS tranny on my b16.... i hate it. Thw tranny is really the b16's only strength.

I'd rather have the B16 tranny. I enjoy short gears. Heck, I enjoy short throws, for that matter.

ok now someone find me one
I'm not trying to have vtec kick in harder because that would require bolt ons or I can be cheap and get a canister exhaust so I f00l myself into thinking my car has more power although it only louder.
I'm just wondering what it be better in the long run if and when the car is being tracked. No straightways though I'm talking about on courses and so forth

Some dude in riverside is selling a S1 tranny with a 6 puck clutch for 5 bills, or 4 bills w/o the clutch. I just gotta dig up the link.

When tuning my turbo b16 we kept upping my rev limit to about 8500 because it kept falling short...Still dont know why, but on my dyno graph it shows that the fuel cut was at 7600-ish...pissed me off..And it didnt always be like that. Sometimes it would go into the 8000's like it was supposed to.
Now I dont shift past 6500

I take it you are running stock valvetrain on that setup! Isnt it kind of a waste to have to shift that low in a b16?

Thats not true that all depends on your setup. If you put vtec at 7500rpm with stock B16 cams its not gonna kick harder.

Whos gauge setup is that? I believe it's from 42draftdesigns.com.
AARGH I've only seen that on one other EF on jdmcivic and it's not even done yet. They're supposed to be assembling me a package of stuff for my setup. oh well.

True, every setup is a bit different, but once you go past the point where the non-VTEC and VTEC lobes make the same power (optimum engagement point), you will always have a harsher engagement.
Think of it this way: Say your stock VTEC point is 5000 rpms. If you set VTEC at 7000rpms on stock cams, the non-VTEC lobe is going to really be falling on its face. At 7000 rpms (or whatever higher-than-stock setting you want) the VTEC lobe of the cam is going to be making a LOT more power than the non-VTEC lobes are. It's that jump in power which accounts for that harder "kick".
The higher you set it above the optimum point, the more the non-VTEC lobe will be falling on its face, and the more power the VTEC lobe should be making.
