Hey just as a suggestion you may want to strip the majority of the old paint off and do your body work on bare metal. It makes things much easier when trying to blend and feather the filler. If your not careful you will see where the filler and old paint meet up after you color sand when filling over old paint.

If you are simply doing spot repairs then you have no choice, but by the looks of things it looks like you are doing a full refinish. Just a thought!

Looking good by the way! </TD></TR></TABLE>

the car was taken down to the bare metal, high/low spots were addressed wit ha light skinning. i then mixed the primer 40/60 instead of 60/40 with reducer so it layed down real thick. i THEN blocked the entire car again. this is why is looks like it does. but its smooth as can be. i spent the most time aligning body panels probably. did the doors with a jack.

hood roof and hatch panel are HOK super jet black and the car is blade silver. im leaving the handles and mirrors stock because

1. ill probably replace the mirrors with some fake spoon looking ones soon.
2. the handles are one more place for me to scratch.

this little primer trick worked really well mixing it 40/60. id reccomend it.

its a highbuild that is supposed to be mixed 60%reducer, 40% primer and i did it 60primer and 40 reducer. the name of the HVLP is on the tip of my tongue, cant think of it. there are 3 diff guns including a small little 4-6 ounce one for doing a-pillars. i primed it but i dont quite trust myself to spray it. the new owner of iceman is actually spraying it. ordered all the paint at carquest believe it or not. but its a franchised one that sells all kinds of wild ****. the silver is PPG and the black is HOK, whoever makes their paint for them.

the guy who sold me the paint talked me out of the bronze clear. told me it would make the silver look brown. im just going to buff the **** out of the clear to get it to look a foot deep.

im typing this and looking up at the assword:jdm add and just laughing at those ********. 1200 for a si-r front with NO hood, NO lip and dicked up fenders. hahahaha

carquest is the **** expletive assword, im sure they are running out of business by now. IS the primer a chemical reaction with the reducer or the reducer just a solvent that evaporates?

I'm going to save this for later. I pulled pretty much all the exterior trim and trashed it. Most of it was discolored and/or cracked, especially the ext window trim on the door, the one right below the mirror. I'm going to buy all new stuff when I buy the new 88-89 moldings.

Chad - I've found that http://www.hondapartsdeals.com usually has the best prices and the widest variety of OEM stuff. I've often found parts on there that were no longer available in dealerships or anywhere else online. That may not be the case with the trim, though, I haven't cecked.

Oh ok it sounds like you know what you are doing. As far as the primer goes as long as you sanded most of it back off it will be fine, but high build primers tend to shrink over time if you leave it thick. Basically you just use a high build primer to fill in sanding scratches, not for a fill. After that I would recommend an epoxy primer used as a sealer before applying the base.

Hot Rod magazine does an annual paint/body issue that is pretty useful. I learned a lot. Tips/tricks from peeps like Socal Speed Shop and the best body/paint/media blasting guys in the biz.

I ran across this pic. I thought I'd share...

mekanism - I'd like to see some pics of your bay again. What did you do to smooth out the fender well area on the driver side? I've done some hammer/dolly action on mine but it's still not real flat. TIA

theres no reaction. just a thinner. i just thinned it less. mainly for the engine bay.

i took a wirewheel to all the glue on the seams under the hood. i didnt remove it, i just kind of blended it in. im using the thick primer to fill in the wirewheel marks and contour the bay a little better in those areas.

anyone ever notice how different the engine bay is on an 88 compared to a 90 or 91? metal is stamped all different. glue is in diff places.

thanks for the links. if anyone knows where the body shops get them from lemme know as well.
