nah like chad said less problems with non vtec...ya'll already know i dont like touching motors unless its to clean them.

Its a toss up b20 vs b16
only other thing I would do to either motor would be ITBs

power doesn't really mean anything to me.
I don't drive fast anyway, unless its in traffic trying to pass up a old lady who is doing 35 on the freeway

with the same tranny, a b20 will SMAAAAASSSHHH a b16 into little bits. its not even a comparo.

and you will not put itbs on it. you wont get it to run right and itbs on a nonvtec 2 liter would give you a loss in drivable power. t rust me jamesy

non vtec. save up for a nice header, and some crower 403s and itll ****-n-get.

well then in that case i need to put the b20 in the heavier car

that was the only reason i was really gettin it. I supposedly purchased the gen.2 obd-1 b16 with 170hp which people say is better then the gen.1, which i thought would be nice to have in the hatch.

james. sit down im going to teach you something about motors. get a pencil

gen 1 b16- obd0, has PR3 pistons.

every other b16 ever made - obd1/2 has P30 pistons. P30 pistons have a slighter larger dome and give about a .4point bump in compression.

thats the only difference in b16s. people swear that every single b16 is different blah blah blah but thats the only real difference.

truth be told, the bst b16 is the newest b16 which is the 99-00 si motor which is STILL as worthless as **** on a boar.

1 refuses. the other is saving it for her grandson, and there is a harvard blue EF hb that this 95 yr old japanese guy refuses to sell either.

ultimx, youre saying that thing shaped like a Y kinda is worthless? i thought i was. i have a b16 for right now and the engine harness was an old dx because it came out of a 90dx. if that mkes sense. i have made this whole harness, and yet none of us can figure out wtf that thing is.

pr4? pr4 is nonvtec ****.

edit: james you need to come stand around me an some of the people i hang out with at the meets like brad, or occasionally joe the streetwerkz. youll absorb motor knowledge and the next thing you know, you wont give a **** about tail lights and spoilers and all you wanna do is build a motor, clean your bay, wiretuck it, put traction bars on it. it would be a turn for the better for the vegabox.

I said wait damnit

I'm heading home from work so i can check all this **** out. so far everything i know is speculation from websites, shops and so forth. Everyone says the gen.2 b16 from the EG is supposed to have 170hp i forgot the torque and different compression ration blah blah.

gen.1 b16
160hp 111trq
10.2 compression

gen.2 b16
170 hp 113trq
10.4 compression

not that its a big difference

the USDM b16 has the same numbers and compression as the gen.1 b16 which is why people say the gen.2 jdm b16 is better... but like i said i dunno

but wait....
I'm driving

May not seem like much of a difference between 1st gen b16 and 2nd gen b16, but when you put them in an ef you can feel the power difference. Well, at least to me and my rexes. WIth a 1st gen and simple bolt ons you are looking at 140-145 hp. 2nd gen you are looking at 155-160hp. 14.1 with my 1st gen, 13.8 with my second gen. But then, no torque. In my opinion you don't need torque to move a crx. It's just a little bit more fun if you do have some. And you can run it with a passenger if you gots torque.

Just my two cents.

basically, the better b16 will be the newer b16. its an age thing. and like this guys said, the "gen 1" a s you call them usually make 138whp on whitfield's dyno. the 16-vs170 cliche is bullshit. and the whole jdm vs usdm thing is also bullshit. dont buy into the hype. get whatever motor is fresher, but avoid the b16 all together if possible.

and dont post and drive, i dont wanna read some thread about you crashing your integra too.

The usdm b16 with bolt ons is looking at 148-150. THat's why those 99-00 civic si are so slow. Those could you use a nice jdm gsr, or even the duece duece. But like deftones mentioned, b20 with b16 tranny is nice. NOt the king cause it lacks top end, but it is quite nice.

I'm not really driving. I was using that as to say if I don't answer right away is probably because I'm in the car..but my ride hasn't come yet so I'm still stuck on here.

but why avoid the b16??
trq reasons??
parts are still readily availble for the motor..some people still swear by it is power?
b20vtec is out of the question
turbo is a no go
supercharger eh
h22 to heavy
k20 not enough money
d16 been there done that

now what??

I personally like b16s. If you haven't noticed yet. But if you are looking for a pretty easy swap with good power and some stunna points. Just pick up a b20 for like $500 and get a b16 tranny. Or if on a budget settle with the ls cable tranny, those can be had for cheap. You dont' have to worry bout any wiring and if the SD popo pulls you over they don't see that big *** vtec logo anywhere so they can slap you with the infamous referee ticket. OH, and Hatches are kind of chunky so you can use the torque to get around town.
