no, but im sure it will help out quite a bit. since you dont ever really go all that fast, a ys1 from a DA gsr i think would be a great choice for a stock tranny to auto x.
but thats my opinion
when i got my hatchback i was all about drag racing so i boosted a ZC and ran the **** out of it. but that was awhile ago now im getting more into road racing but it kinda sucks in montana with 1 "real" road course, we mostly just have parking lot races with dont look too fun to me but i probably will atend a few this year.
my new rebuild for my car is more for auto x/ road racing. its a B20b with bolt ons and F2 coilovers, and a suspension techniques rear sway bar and i will get all new brakes worthy of being abused. i cant wait for it!

road racing... i'd love to try it, i'll admit though that ive always been scared during hard braking and cornering on the streets. maybe the track will be different.

That's why I like it. Well, at least when there isnt anything too hard to run into if/when you go off track.
It's way more of a rush than I ever got drag racing. Maybe cause it lasts longer. I dunno. I'll admit that I suck at drag racing, though.
James, what transmission do youhave in there now?

no. what you really need is suspension and brakes. a internally stock engine and tranny would be fine

TIRES! #1 thing you should get. it's the contact area between your car and the tarmac.
i know airport runways are also called tarmac's vega..... but runway tires wont cut it for any racing.

actually stock suspension and brakes are fine too....the key is to get out there and drive...modifications are not needed for auto-x..plenty of people go out and have a great time and are competitive with stock cars...however your right in that if you are going to modify for auto-x brakes and tires are where you start

Joe, I know you want a HPK sticker for it
I've only been out on the track once, but i never worried about anybody coming in contact with me. Most of the people out there are decent drivers, and are just as concerned with their car getting smashed up as well. it's not a race anyways. If someone is faster than you, you hold your line and wave them past you on the straightaways. vice-versa if you'rre faster than someone else.

actually, i take that back.. i was a little scared for the first 2-3 laps.. then i got into the groove and started to relax.
I have to say though, it was a bit scary when the first advanced session of the day resulted in this:

Dude pulls into the garage just laughing. He was like "I'm happy it wasnt the front bumper. I just got that repainted!"

We were laughing at the fact that he brought NO tools with him..
kept coming over to me and brandon (a couple of broke honda guys) and asking for our jack, and a 19mm to take his wheels off. lol

so go out there and test the car first before you make upgrades??
for most things (unlike appearance and cosmetics) there are standards to be able to compete.
I'm just trying to make sure I atleast meet the minimum standards before I go out there.

read the rules of each track event. they usually tell you what you need to pass tech inspection. if you can meet those requirements, you can race.
you have raced at the Q, you can see what most places ask to pass tech: http://racelegal.com/web/requirements.asp
