5.7Litre FTW. My 4.7 can't handle an enclosed trailer
As soon as Toyota throws a diesel in the Tundra, I'm trading my '03 in. Oh, and since this is a picture thread...

I had a Yukon Xl, just got rid of it earlier this year. I wanted to get a 2500 or a Dually, but its just too much truck for every day use. The Tundra 5.7L can do the job for local towing stuff and up to Vegas.
Cant' wait. hehe.

I don't think the ridgeline/pilot can tow a car, can it? I would prefer the four door tundra. I'm hoping our next vehicle can pull my hatch if I get a tow dolly.
Question for you guys that have shipped hoods. I've had some interest in my zc hood. Does it make sense to get a hood box from a body shop and ship it that way? I'll make sure it has enough insurance

I think the Ridgeline is rated at 5,000 or 5,500 towing capacity. Keep in mind it's basically a FWD truck so it's not the best for towing, but it will easily tow a CRX on a dolly. It could tow a CRX on a trailer (roughly 4,000 lbs.) but then adding all your track day equipment would make it pretty hard on the Ridgeline's transmission.

from me. Too much room for error when towing with one of those.

Really? Enlighten me. I was hoping someday my EF would be a dedicated track car, and that was going to be my solution to transporting it. I doubt I'll ever have room to store a full size trailer.

depends on how far and how often you tow. The dolly is unstable in my opinion. If you've ever towed an open or enclosed trailer, the trailers can swing and take a life of its own. Also its weight you are pulling and when you brake, physics come into play. With the dolly, the car is not really full stable and is just resting on the dolly and just strapped on. With an open trailer with brakes, it can help in the braking and not relying on just the tow vehicle to stop the car.
I'd get a cheap open trailer if possible, even a short one will do. If you're only going less than 100miles or so, the dolly is ok, its just less than 2 hrs drive, but if more than that, I'd rather get a flat bed trailer.

Tow dolly woes:
1. Steep driveway angles: Most tow dolly's have stationary ramps or stubs that still stick out when you detach the little ramps. In the event of a steep drive of some sorts, those stubs can angle up and crush the underside of your car.
2. Sharp turns or u-turns: Next time you see someone turning a car towing a dolly, watch what happens with the car on the dolly. Too much stress is put on the front wheels and they can turn a bit...worst case scenario your steering lock breaks (which can happen) and you have the tow dolly fenders jamming through your doors
3. Control and braking: Like mentioned above, steering locks can brake and then you have an unstable car on a dolly. Like mentioned in a couple posts above, you get no braking assist. I have a brake controller mounted in my truck so I can utilize the electric brakes of an open trailer. Those things are awesome.
BUT, if you're cautious, don't drive like a dick-hole, and your budget only affords you a tow dolly, they can be a feasible means of towing a car. I believe California law states the vehicle being towed on the dolly must be registered...not sure about other states.

Interesting points. I've never towed a car on a dolly, but I've pulled boats, skid loaders (with electric brakes) and other trailers. I guess I've never taken the time to think about how the dolly and car work together.

ive towed plenty of hondas with it. it has a 5000lb tow capacity. a 2500lb crx plus 1000lb trailer or even a 1500lb trailer are within the limits.
2 drag racers on this forum tow their cars too. one is an ITR and the other is a turbo prelude. i'll try to find pics.
when i towed nick, the ridgeline went from FWD to AWD at take off.

Just an FYI, most wood planked 2-axle trailers are AT LEAST 1500lbs. The diamond plate trailer I'll be ordering will weigh about 2300 lbs. with options.

andy, don't use a dolly. ask justinto hook you up with a trailer...DDtrailers in verona can make you an aluminum one the proper size for your hatch for pretty cheap or a steel and wood for even less.
to all considering a new tundra-wait a little bit. they are snapping cams and bad **** is happening.

my crx is well under the 2500lb weight i gave it. i was just high-balling.
im not saying the ridgeline is the perfect tow vehicle... but it works for my personal use.

ya short distance and 4K lbs, shouldnt be too bad.
Last I weight my DX was 1850 with me in it when I got it corner balanced and aligned. Uncut, full interior, just fiberglass hood and hatch.

i was actually looking at a few older F-150's a few weeks back. my fiance wants us to have different cars after we get married. probably an 07 civic ex coupe, an 07 civic si sedan, and an older tow vehicle for the rex.

...and they are replacing the motors accordingly. My parents have had their new '07 Tundra since March and they LOVE it. They tow a 24.5 ft. 5th wheel with it. I need to check, but I think it was a certain production run that received the "bad" cams.

Ya i didnt jump on getting the Tundra right away. I'm lookin on getting it next spring. I was planning to step up and get a Dodge Diesel, but considering the racing schedule next year, it looks like we're staying within 2 states of us and not planning to go far anyways. The Tundra will get us to Vegas track just fine
