If I were a guessing man, I would say the alloy of the cotterpin would expand faster than the ball joint stud. Not to mention the sheer size of the cotterpin compared to a bulk piece. My point earlier was to use anything you can/could find. I drill is a good idea too, I would use a small bit first. Let it get through there and possibly grab it.
An old lady in a Prius was covering her left ear with her hand when I accelerated "partial throttle" past her this morning in the left lane. Hahahaha...good thing a friend of mine let me borrow an old OEM 92-95 Hatch muffler. Gonna get a flange and weld it onto the current piping and bolt this baby up. It sucks having to wussy-foot the throttle when I'm driving near cops.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. too bad when i told you that for the first time you looked at me with the same face as mr el conquestador up there.

There really is no right way to put it in. The one side is longer just so you can grab it and bend it. If both sides were the same length...it would be difficult to get a hold of to bend. Just make sure you bend both sides back and away from the back of the rotor.
