my "goal" with my hatch is to race it. but at the same time the hatch is there just to make me smile. it is like a big set of legos and i can do whatever i want with them. ie alot of the random diy stuff i have done. i kind of get the itch to do something and well i do it.
life changes and priorities change. I never thought in a million year i would of sold my car, but a disconnect happened. lost the luster i use to feel with it. also you can over brake our little hatchs. honestly the integra disc brakes fit our cars weight very well. you do realize lock up happens quicker and thats not good. You didnt answer my main question? What are you trying to achieve with your build? ie. hard parker, mag worthy, 1320, track, auto x, or what? everyone has some type of goal you've never made yours clear. For me my new Si will be a personal build that will allow me to build something that will make me happy, perform well on the track, auto x, and something i can still drive when ever i want.
I won't ever sell the car just to move on and I just hope never to have something happen to it. It won't happen, I know a lot of people sell theirs or get something else or even move on but with me I plan on keeping it as long as possible. Its my first car and not that it will be my last hopefully but at the same time it will always be there. The way I look at it is that I can't get bored of it because its not built yet so expectations can't be too high. How can I say oh I got bored of it when I didnt even do a swap or anything? If I didnt get to the fun stuff then of course it wont be fun. Needs to be built first and my build philosophy is pretty deep lol. I dont care how many funds I have available for it, I will wait until something can be improved on and then do it till I'm happy with it. Perfection is like OCD but I do plan on having everything to my liking with no cut corners and everything done as well as possible without too much overkill. I pull inspiration from a lot of sources and its impossible to know what it will be like when Im done so therefore it won't ever be done. It will have its phases. Like brad said, these cars are like legos. You can always get a new/different setup. One may be better than the other but its like clothes, you aren't going to wear your favorite jeans everyday, you switch it up!
I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing with it but it depends. I want to have a RHD EG at one point so I need to decide what I want to do with each first. I dont want to strip a mint EG6 SiR to hit the track, its too dangerous for a daily (theft, vandalism) so that would probably would just be a nice looking, good power, comfy, fun, weekend/meet drives where I can always keep an eye on the car or keep it at a safe location.
As of now Hatchy (my car) will be built to drive on the streets with comfort and at the same time be able to hit the auto-x, track days, meets/show and just an overall good car with limited sacrifices. So just a nice B18C motor, fully setup top notch suspension, nice interior, hid retrofit, neat jdm pieces like moldings, visors, spoon duckbill, oem lip or something like a mugen/spoon/bys/etc, nice exhaust, steering wheel, prob some recaros, jdm wheels and keep changing them every now and then. Very oem while being quick at the track and not harsh on the streets. Not all out street comfort/looks and not all out track like. I want it to be the best that it can be with the right sacrifices done. Hope to get it in a mag and have fun with it going to meets, track days and tailgate parties!
Im surprised a few of you aren't in my build thread lol. I know it moves slow nowadays but still!

Yeah they do change but at the same time if you know me in person you know that its a big part of who I am. It feels like I'm new to the scene but I've been on Honda-tech since 05 and liked Hondas since before fast and furious even came out. Sure I may of have been only 11 but even then I still liked cars a lot and when I first saw a hatch for the first time there was just something about it. Turns out the car really fits me and my vision of a well designed car for what its made for. I like the potential they have to be anything and be good at it. Even though I havent had mine for all that long in the grand scheme of things or gotten that far with it, I still consider myself a semi-og. I wasn't around in the 90s but I will always be at this. People come and go in this scene but I'm not looking for 15 mins of fame.

Well I say mini OG loosely because I'm not one of those guys that come in and play the trend game and then get bored because the car is just crap and full of fake cheap parts. I dont think an OG is necessarily one of the founding fathers but I think its someone whos been there from when they first got into it and never stopped.

Yeah Im 21 and yeah cars are replaceable but I want to do my best to keep this one unless something happens and then that will just be what it is but its in good hands for now. I'll share stuff here if I do anything and I think thats how this thread should be.
I want to build my EH but time will come and everything will fall into place and I'll be able to show what I can do which to me is sort of my version of the ultimate test. If I can get through school and be successful afterwards and be able to have the knowledge and skill to build something great, then that will make me happy but for now its only my motivation.
It's not our fault you had kids.
On a serious note, I see what you mean by having priorities but you have to understand that a lot of us don't have kids, car payments, etc.
So in the meantime, school and work are the main things. Oh and my appetite.

Back in 07-09 (age 20-22) I told myself I would never sell my car, but these guys are right. There comes a point where you just start seeing things differently and just start to grow up and your car isn't so important anymore. Don't get me wrong your still gonna love the scene and your car but not as much as you do now.
In about 2 or 3 yrs you will see what were talking about. Don't forget man most of us that are older and been where your at now.

Very true but then u relapse like jeff and get another hatch :p
They don't make cars like those anymore so I want to own a piece of history as well. These cars are going strong even after 16 years post production. Ima keep enjoying it till whenever and then I'll move onto building something else bit I'll still keep it. The fire is still going strong here lol.

i always knew at some point i would get another. kinda knew i would have this 4 months before i bought it. some times its good to walk away from something to make you realize how much you really love it.
I had my '98 Civic Ex coupe for eight years and didn't plan on getting rid of it...however...fate took it away from me but then blessed me with this '93 Civic Cx hatch. I plan on having it till it's taken away from me as well. So I see where you're coming from HBK.
well..i read alot and ill probably forget some of the points i wanted to make. soooo here i go..let the good times roll.
alot of the points jeff has made have been true for me. even though i have never really thought about selling the car except for one time A LONG TIME ago. that wasnt because i was over the car or the scene i just wanted a different chassis which i think was an ep3. but at the age you are at claudio some things change. when i was at your age i didnt drink and i didnt go out. BUT i started hanging around people who did and guess what..i started going out. i never even thought about the car because all i thought about was what girl am i going to holler at today.
claudio the og term is a bit over used. to me an og is someone who makes a movement happen or evolve..ie ff squad..miles butista..bergenholtz brothers..shaun hillier..jdm jon tanji..chad castello..etc. these people were "before" their time..how many of those people would you consider "mainstream" now?? ff squad maybe or somewhat..now a days it is all about getting in a magazine then parting the car. boom you have your fame whatever. it kind of makes me sick to think about. noone is really on the cutting edge of anything honda related anymore it seems..except for people like bisi and other race type programs. it seems as if everyone is follow the leader. ie..bys spoilers on "eg"s..now first molding lips on "ek"s..etc. that is why you see posts like what color should i do..what wheels should i get..what this..what that..who gives a crap. it is your car..ask your close friends if anybody. other than that dont like anyone else influence your "build" besides cars you might "look up to".
and to side track off of the og thing..i have had the vtec issue and katman hit me up with a few "tricks". i havent never heard of them until then..and i have been around for awhile. bad thing is i bet he has had these in his bag for awhile now. that is og. claudio i see alot of me in you at your age. which can be good or bad. lol. not to knock you or maybe my impression is wayyy off but you can research and read all you want but until you put it to use it is nothing. like i said maybe im wrong but you havent done much to your car except suspension. which there is nothing wrong with that at all but many of us can tell you..until you start "digging in" you wont go through most of the problems some of us have had. which i think can be some of the most fun you will have looking back at it. at the time you want to shoot yourself and the car. lol. i can honestly say i have taken off and/or replaced everything on my car except the subframe..steering column..right front/left rear/left front brake hardlines. other than that i have touched it all on this car.
would i like to keep this car forever..ehhh..i dont know. i like the car alot..that car is what got member 4cylfiend into hondas..atleast that is what he says. but with anything comes progression and well obviously id like to do something like a paid driving career. so with that progression i would most likely need to move on and learn other platforms. if the timing/money was right maybe i could keep it but i doubt it. money would need to fund the other car etc.
im all over the place with this post but points keep coming back. lol. to your point hbk about when you get in a finacial point where you can have more than the hatch etc. that is true..i choose to have an older sedan so i have the money to put towards other things. but i remember even when i had the sedan and anyday it was nice i wanted to drive the hatch. now a days though i could care less..to me it is like well i worked my butt off for that thing so i will use it for its intended purpose. besides seeing track time or autox courses it only sees the road to drive around the block. and that is perfectly acceptable to me.
i think i will stop there because well..im tired of typing.
i dont have any pics of when i first got it. but this is after i put tein ras and rnr copies on it.

now in it.s glory. lol.

well put brad. on side notes. pray that this weekend i dont kill myself. going to try and skate for the first time in years. also i cant wait for school to be over. im gonna try and pick up a second job.

Yeah I know things change so I account for that =]

FF Squad is still pretty active, they often do track days, have pics floating, do videos, post up tech info on their site and share information on tires/suspension as you know and lots of other stuff. I would say they're OGs and those other guys too. I think to also be an og you have to have been around and contributed to it and have earned your status/respect. Obviously Im not there yet but I think most "enthusiasts" can appreciate my philosophy to cars and they usually are curious as to the direction Im going, almost as if they know I have the potential to build something unique.
now a days it is all about getting in a magazine then parting the car. boom you have your fame whatever. it kind of makes me sick to think about.
Thats what I think too which is whatever, they're part of the scene too but I hate seeing well built cars get taken apart after the build, its pretty retarded and you have the guys that live the hobby and you have others that are only in it to impress others

Yeah you see those posts all the time. Its hard to be unique in a Honda and at the same time you're left to do the new thing which is usually stupid **** like barrels on a roof rack or your car looks too stock. Some things play out but duckbills on hatches wont for example, no matter what, they will always look good. Sure some people will want to look into something different and its fine. I want to build something timeless that won't get out of style so easily. Theres a lot of people on the cutting edge, those are the enthusiasts I think. They may not be in it to mass produce something but they are still pushing the envelope. Pushing the envelope in the show part of it is getting 16x12'' wheels and getting it to roll lol. I have my influences but yeah like you said, they are more cars that I look up to than anything. There are so many I could never pinpoint them all or even close to it but there are a few that I really admire.
and to side track off of the og thing..i have had the vtec issue and katman hit me up with a few "tricks". i havent never heard of them until then..and i have been around for awhile. bad thing is i bet he has had these in his bag for awhile now. that is og.
They have a lot of those random little issues solved and looked over. They've been there and its good that they share the info. Theres mad random stuff that you find in his site that you usually don't think about
claudio i see alot of me in you at your age. which can be good or bad. lol. not to knock you or maybe my impression is wayyy off but you can research and read all you want but until you put it to use it is nothing.
I believe you, thats why I try to get as much info on all sorts of aspects so that when I have to go there, Im better prepared and know what they outcome may be. Its hard to get a read of someone in real life from online interaction but I can see how I come off and Im not really like that. I'm pretty laid back/open minded lol
like i said maybe im wrong but you havent done much to your car except suspension. which there is nothing wrong with that at all but many of us can tell you..until you start "digging in" you wont go through most of the problems some of us have had. which i think can be some of the most fun you will have looking back at it.
Thats why I cant get bored of it. Cant judge the hatch owning experience until I've been there and done it. I've done suspension but really thats nothing too major. Mostly just threw on some OEM parts and fixed some jaggedy stuff from the previous owner along with some maintenance. The good is still to come.
at the time you want to shoot yourself and the car. lol. i can honestly say i have taken off and/or replaced everything on my car except the subframe..steering column..right front/left rear/left front brake hardlines. other than that i have touched it all on this car.

Yeah thats perfectly fine to move on, its just a car afterall. Mine has deeper meaning so its more than just a car. You're just enjoying yours and sometimes you have to move on to bigger and better things.

The good is still to come.
at the time you want to shoot yourself and the car. lol. i can honestly say i have taken off and/or replaced everything on my car except the subframe..steering column..right front/left rear/left front brake hardlines. other than that i have touched it all on this car.
would i like to keep this car forever..ehhh..i dont know. i like the car alot..that car is what got member 4cylfiend into hondas..atleast that is what he says. but with anything comes progression and well obviously id like to do something like a paid driving career. so with that progression i would most likely need to move on and learn other platforms. if the timing/money was right maybe i could keep it but i doubt it. money would need to fund the other car etc.
Yeah thats perfectly fine to move on, its just a car afterall. Mine has deeper meaning so its more than just a car. You're just enjoying yours and sometimes you have to move on to bigger and better things.
im all over the place with this post but points keep coming back. lol. to your point hbk about when you get in a finacial point where you can have more than the hatch etc. that is true..i choose to have an older sedan so i have the money to put towards other things. but i remember even when i had the sedan and anyday it was nice i wanted to drive the hatch. now a days though i could care less..to me it is like well i worked my butt off for that thing so i will use it for its intended purpose. besides seeing track time or autox courses it only sees the road to drive around the block. and that is perfectly acceptable to me.
i think i will stop there because well..im tired of typing.

oh clud, the joys of putting a swap in finding out the dizzy is bad, having to have a trans fixed, having to stop and find a place to to swap my rims from front to back due to vibration, trying to put on a h-brace and ending up having to drop the cross member cause the bolt inside fell off, forgetting to tighten your lug nuts after an all night 3 car motor swap ordeal ( only drove on the drive way), not amount of reading will prep you for the joys of getting dirty with the car. like brad said sometimes you want to blow the car up, push it off a cliff, or kick it. your joys are just around the corner, once you really start taking it apart the fun will start.
hey guys, my name is Andrew. i'm from Ohio.. just started to get into the Honda game and need to get my rep up haha!
recently traded my DA6 off for an EH2.. it's basically stock except for ricer mods. it's pretty busted right now, so i'm needing some parts. i'm not looking to join the squad yet, my car isn't worthy. but i've got a WTB thread in my sig, check it out if you have any used or new parts you wanna get rid of!
sorry for the terrible picture, my work blackberry has AWFUL resolution.

beside doing the wiring on the hatch i would say the worst part was doing the rear hard line. it involved me laying under the car with a small pipe bender and another buddy in the engine bay. i had to push until it got bound up then pull it back out some..bend..repeat. it sucks at the time but it a story for the journey you have been through. somewhere someone put about how they are going to document everything they did. that is one thing i wish i would have done. one reason being 4cylfiend.s girlfriend did it for him and it actually means something. i dont hardly have jack to show for mine except for a few mobile uploads. lol. the other reason is because people who dont understand dont know how in depth it can be.
there is actually a red hard top miata next door that has me thinking..but i havent completed some goals i want to achieve in the hatch aka track times so let the good times roll.
