Then you will be maxing out the injectors. That it can lead to major problems. Go with 1000cc and go for e85.

Yeah good luck with that...he's going to need larger injectors to get to his goals. The 550s might hold out for him, but are going to be damn close to their max. The rule for injector sizing is 6cc of injector per whp.

550cc X 4inj = 2200cc
2200cc / 6cc(per whp) = 367whp with a 75-85% duty cycle

In order to make 450whp with them, they'd be well over 100% duty...

dsm 440cc is only good till around 300whp. So if it's another 110cc added... I don't think it will even reach 400whp. Check out Evans-tuning.com. he has a check list for boost.

You are going to need at least 750cc to push 400whp. I say go for 1000cc and E85, if your local town sells e85.
e85 is about 105 octane which mean more octane, more power, more boost, more safety.
It wouldn't hurt to spend another 200 to 300 on bigger injector, than try to risk thousands of dollar on blown motor because of small injectors. If he wants to run the 550cc, then just shoot for mid 300whp.

Also how big is the intercooler??? Cheap brands and small intercooler wont hold a lot of power.

I'm doing the same...its great to have E85 readily available in our area. By the way, check the bolded area in your quote.

+1

If you can get e85 easily, there is almost no reason for you to get some 1000's and tune it on e85. Just make sure your tuner is familiar with it.

Either way though, you will need bigger injectors.

either get 1000cc's for E85 or 850's for pump..I suggest going with E85 if you can get a hold of it.

107.. Even better. I put 105 because I read this old thread on E85 and some local tuner said it was about 105 octane as well.

rpm plays a roll in injectors ability to make power, if your spinning to 9000rpm 550's probably wont cut it... every setup is different, 550's might make it if you dont spin that high but its your choice everybody here has spoken and we all have experience... i vote for 750's since you'll have room to grow.
