Default Turbo not spooling, checked piping....

One day I'm seeing boost, the next day I'm not. At full throttle I see about 1 maybe 2psi on the boost gauge and I hear no spooling. I briefly checked the charge pipes, and they are all connected and don't seem to be leaking. I just fixed some exhaust leaks. I have a Tial wastegate and I don't hear the exhaust coming out of it (I usually can when it opens up). What else could it be? or what have I forgotten to check. TIA

Can you spin the compressor side impeller? Make sure its not seized up. Like take off the intake pipe and reach in there and spin the blade a little. Obviosuly with the engine very much off

I've never spun the impeller, but I would think it should spin fairly easy.

Yeah, both wheels spin freely. I can feel the compressor sucking in air (I only have a screen on the compressor) when i pull the throttle cable, too.

check your wastegate signal lines...check your compressor housing bolts to make sure its sealed. Recheck you IC piping. I bet you blew off a vacuum hose or something of the sort. maybe your turbine is TOASTED. pull your turbine housing off and check out the wheels.

check the actual couplers connecting your pipes together, a tiny tear, that was the culprit for me when my car wasn't reaching full boost

Ya, your exhaust HAS to be going somewhere. So its either going out the wastegate or going out the turbine. If it goes out the turbine then the compressor WILL have to spin and you should hear that. And if its going out the wastegate then you should hear it.

Does the car still pull like normal?

I don't really hear either, but I'll definitely inspect more closesly tomorrow. The car still pulls like it should without the boost.

Tomorrow, I'm going to triple check everything.

Oh yeah, earlier today I took apart the turbo so everything should be sealed like it should. And, I've been having the problem BEFORE today when I took it apart.

could you give us the rundown on your setup. ALL parts...catchcan...what plugs...what fuel...what psi...last time you were tuned...afr logs...ignition timing... etc. we need to know it all.

Off the top of my head: B18c1 built block, Inlinepro mani, SC61, no catchcan, old plugs that are about to be replaced, pump gas, 780cc injectors (the brand is slipping my mind), tuned a couple years ago on hondata 4b.....

If the car still pulls like normal, maybe just the boost gauge? Maybe its got a pinched line?

The car still pulls like it should without the boost. =/= pulls as hard as it did when it was boosting.

keep looking in your setup...im sure it will show up.

Ok, so I checked all the couplers and they seem fine. No vacuum leaks. I replaced the spark plugs. Felt everywhere for leaks while pulling the throttle cable and couldn't really find anything. The car still sees NO BOOST. What else should I be checking? or how?

The boost gauge still shows 22 at no throttle so it can't be a vacuum leak right? And it can't be the waste gate because i put something on the dumptube to see if it would blow away and it didn't even move.

Thanks for the link, I think I'll have to go to home depot tomorrow

Does anyone know what nipple that is on there, and which hose/fittings combo will I have to get to hook it up to an air compressor?

How could I check the bov for leaks? It's a TiaL so I figured that it would be one of the last places I would have a leak, but at this point anything seems possible to me.

rev the car up by the throttle cable and feel around the bov for air leaking...really interested to see what the problem is because this has happened to me time and time again, every time it was just a small crack or tear in the coupler!

i've blown couplers off. and that's the only problem i've had with boost leaks. most likely one of your couplers has a small leak. make sure the turbo is spinning. that was the other problem i had...turbo went bye bye on me and another time my wastegate got stuck open.

Just take the intercooler pipes apart, inspect the couples, and put them back together.

Every time I have had this problem it has been couplers letting go. Sometimes you can't even tell with a visual inspection, because it may be slightly off on the side of the coupler opposite of where you can see.
