Turbo LS-V Vtec not engaging
Not sure if this is supposed to go here but due to the fact that my car is turbo, I will post here. Ok, so today I went to get my ls vtec turbo tuned and discovered that vtec was not engaging. The car is an obd2 gsr with a obd1 conversion harness. First thing I did was check oil level and then connected the vtec solenoid wire to the positive on the battery...solenoid works fine. Next, I hooked a test light up to the vtec solenoid wire coming from the harness...no power. I then connected the test light to the solenoid wire on the ecu...no light. The car is throwing a coolant temp sensor code. Will this have anything to do with vtec not engaging? I am stumped at this point and really do not know what to do next. I absolutely have to tune tomorrow due to the move I am about to make. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Someone please help!!!

Re: Turbo LS-V Vtec not engaging
So I did some heavy searching and found out that vtec will not work without the coolant temp sensor. So now my question is what could cause it to not work besides it being a bad sensor? Im pretty sure it is a wiring issue but not positive.

Re: Turbo LS-V Vtec not engaging
Do a continuity test of the wires. Just trace them back from the Coolant Temp Sensor plug. If you have continuity, then you know it's the sensor. Those things are only like $40 new at max

Not that its the right way, butdepending on software, you should be able to disable the coolant temp check for the VTEC. I know in basic crome you can do it. Just makes it so the ecu doesnt look for the up to temp coolant before allowing vtec to engage.
