Which turbo do I need to make 250 whp for 12 PSI or under?
I want something with a nice spool, ATLEAST full spool by 3500 RPM. This is going on my Miata & I have a 6500rpm redline. I do not want to exceed 12 PSI on the turbo & want to make right around 250whp. Stock mazdaspeed 1.8 engine. Not many guys in the mazda forums know much about turbo's & being a honda guy, I figure i'd ask here.
I personally was thinking a T3/T04E, 50 trim .48 a/r ... or

honestly there is about 50-100 different turbo's you could choose from, if budget allows a gt28rs would be nice.

on a b16 pig rich and 6 psi i made 235. i mean like 150miles to a tank rich. (6 years ago bad chip from ard performance with my swap and an fmu.)
that was with a straight t04b with a drag kit.

i see, the turbo you mentioned in your first post should be fine then i would also check out bullseye power, they have some sick *** non-bb turbo's check out there extended tip stuff.

good till 400whp?
If i were you, I'd go smaller. something that'll support 300whp, that way you'll have better boost repsonse, 250whp will be in it's efficiency range and you'll still have room to play. especially if you want full boost by 3.5k.
also, why have you set a boost limit? psi doesn't break stuff, horsepower does.if you choose a smaller turbo it'll take more boost.

yeah the big kahuna. its a bad *** turbo. my buddy had one on his gsr. and wow. i have a straight t3 50trim on my ls and i get full boost at like 3200 and i make power until redline. 230/195. this is at like 9.5 psi so just to give you an idea. and the ls head doesnt flow very well.

i'd say it's a liiiiiiiittle bit big for someone shooting for only 250whp and full boost by 3.5k. badass turbo nonetheless, but wouldn't be my first choice at all for this app..

i made 540 with the kahuna, friend made 594 then went boom. mine was a 84mm b16 his was a stock sleeved forged internal'd b16.
thats a nasty turbo, but it is a light switch.
