Default turbo naming systems

Hi, all, im noobish when it comes to how the naming scheme for turbos go. Im trying to research to design a turbo setup for my soon to be gsr b18c1 engine. Im confused because of the huge variations of naming like t3/t4 and t3/0t4 and the like. Just dont get it too well. Any explanation would be greatly appreciated.

Also, i wanted to ask at what point would you need to use an external wastegate as opposed to one coupled with the compressor. Thanks!
