Default -What do you think of my turbo choice?-

First the plans- I am piecing together a set up for my '01 GSR. I want to run it for probably a year or two before moving to forged internals. In this time I will run between 7 and 8 psi, and plan to use hondata (hopefully tuned by Mase).

I am pretty set on a Garrett t3/t04e 57 trim .63AR, I am getting a fairly good deal on a new one from a friend. I came to this decision by debating a good "in the middle" turbo. Not too small as to need replacing when I move to forged and want more like 14psi, but not so big that my time spent at 7-8psi is all lag. Also I am on a budget so really exspensive turbos are out of my range.

1. Please give me your opinion on this turbo for my application. Good, bad, small, big, etc.

2. And how would you exspect this to perform for me? At 7psi- what RPM will it start to pull and reach full boost? At higher PSI - What psi/whp should I plan on being the limit of this turbo?

Thanks, JFoster

I know you have a big redline and all, but a .63AR is gonna lag a little. FOr me, it wouldn't be much fun, I like shreading the tires from a 3000rpm roll

Yeah, but I am looking for a relatively fast spool. I could always go smaller, and faster, but I don't want to have to replace it to push like 14psi or so in the future.

What does anyone else think? Is this too big?

Why not get the .48 housing to start then swap in a .63 later. Thats exactly why they make differnt ones, so you can tune between each wheel size. I'm surprised I don't see more people trading compressor covers and turbine housings on HT.

Not so into the idea of swapping this and that. Trying for as close as I can get to the best of both worlds. That way when the time for forged internals comes thats all I have to afford - internals, install, retune. Not a whole new turbo set up also. I guess I am wanting the smallest turbo that can do 14psi....maybe 16.

thats the exact turbo i went with. i am thinking the same way you are with not wanting to get a bigger turbo later when i do get internals. i dont think that it is gonna lag too much since they make the drag turbo kits with them. the guys at cheapturbo.com recommended that trim and AR so i am hoping it works out good. ill let you know when i get it on.

57 trim .63 AR
