Drag race only? If so, then that means you'll be running slicks.
slicks that expand..
These B16 trannies will be good: S1, & J1
The YS1's 1st & 5th gears are too short
And parts are going to hard to find if you get stuck with a Y1 (the tallest).
Heck, parts are going to be hard to find period for any B16 tranny.

For street:
90-91' B18a tranny all the way!
People think it has long gearing like the 94' and up LS.
Wrong, it has 4.400 FD and you won't fall out of vtec if you shift at 8k.

The best tranny that I have seen yet for a track/street turbo car was a LS tranny with a ITR Diff and ITR final drive. It shortens up 1st and 2nd very slighty but 3rd, 4th and 5th are still nice and long.

The LS tranny is only good for saving gas and topend runs.

Great feedback Sam! I personally run/ran the LS tranny with Quaife with my LS/VTEC setup. I had no problems staying in VTEC and ran it to 8-8500 rpm's. First, second and third would have a hard time hooking up once they got spinning. I had a very hard time racing out of the hole, due to wheel spin no matter how much I would peddle it. I can say that I kicked the crap out of a many O'V8 and V6 turbo's from a 3rd gear roll. I would start in 3rd gear at 3-3500 rpms/60-65 mph and then stomp it. I can say that top speed in 4th at 8500 rpm's is instant jail time if caught. If you are running over 25 inch slicks then a GSR tranny would be a better choice the shorter gears and taller slicks work well or so I've been told. Later Allen

You mean the JDM S1?
Not quite, the S4C has a shorter 5th.

The gsr tranny will be the best way to go for the turbo.
