Default Transmission selection on 550+whp

ok ..i have been using an ls trans with an lsd ..3rd and 4th gears are longgggg..it feals great..but it seems as if the carsetup boosts slower in those gears..i have recently aquired a brand brand new gsr transmission ..and a quaife lsd...what are the fast guys running ..ls or gsr ..then comes down to the question of tire sizing (slicks) i would like to run a gsr trans ..since my ls is down for the count (bad hub rings) and just up the tire size on the track ..
this situation brings question to my mind only because when i first started runnin turbo with 350+whp..i had a b-16 trans ...it seemed really nice...felt good ..and the turbo spooled quicker than a hooker could suck a golfball through a garden hose

550 to the wheels with a 9500 or better rev limit and 25" slicks.......use the b16.

with out reving you motor like a mad man aka jinx and and running on short slicks and street tires get a gsr tranny

if you go with a b16 tranny you will be going to 5th on a 8000-8500 revlimter on 22-24inch slicks

and on some 205-50-15 street tire you will be well in 5th by the time you get thru the 1/4

my vote gsr tranny for 550whp

im fellin this ...it doesnt hurt to try it ...
i was thinking ...since the gears are a lil shorter in a gsr trans than an ls ...i shouldnt fall out of boost ..between gears ...that was kinda of happening b4 .but not to the degree were i was losing tenths..

How does everyone feel about the Dual disk clutch from clutchmasters

You're all wrong, longer gears are better for turbo...

the twin disc is an awsome clutch. holds over 600 to the wheels.

ya ..i cant wait to get my new setup going ..i should be trailoring it to the dyno here in the next week or so.
As far as the Trans mission selection ...im gonna shoot in the middle and try out the Gsr ...if im not satisfied ...i can always go back to my Ls ...for some reason i have a strong feeling that the Gsr trans with 26 inch slicks ..is gonna be the magic number

I agree with Tony1. A bit long 3rd and 4th are good for turbos.

as far as the clutch master twin disk, i have seen it slip with just a little more then 600 to the wheels. i would recommend tilton for anything above 600.

i have never really understood this get a longer gear because you will be in boost longer, i dont believe that is true. the reason one would want to go to longer gears would be because of traction problems.

Yeah then you have to off set it with smaller wheels. No traction with smaller wheels unless they are very wide. Then you can't turn as well. 12-point turns instead of a U-turn aren't fun.

b16 tranny would be good i think also.

gsr tranny
quaife lsd
si 3 and 4 gears
jdm itr FD

alreayd have it now so im gonna throw it on to see how the boost likes it. If need be ill take out the FD and re-install the stock 4.40 fd. Opinions welcome please

Damnit Tony now you tell me, I just went out and made custom FD of 2.30 FD thought finishing the 1/4 in 2nd gear was good for TURBO.
