im running 310's with the 8:1FMU, aux fuel pump and stock internals.

run 7lbs.

i was told to retard 2 degrees.....so this is what i've done. is this correct? been running 8months no problems with it. i should be advanced? this doesnt sound right.

30 degrees advance???? WTF???? You sure you're reading the timing light correctly? Something's not right here...

don't need to. the data logger gives me that info.

you know to make hp you need timing advance. the more boost/rpm the more advance that is required to burn the same amount mixture. retarding timing is mainly a fail safe. but with good tuning and fuel delivery retard is not needed.

Ahh, so many people here misunderstand the difference between static ignition advance at idle and advance at high RPM. As RPMs increase, there is LESS TIME between each combustion event, but the fuel still takes near the same amount of time to burn. Thus to achieve max cyl pressure at the right time, the ECU advances ignition timing so that spark occurs earlier.

The ECU controls ignition timing... turning the distributor just offsets the tdc sensor input to to the ECU so it is fooled into earlier or later spark...

30 deg advance is a lot for boost. Are you sure you are not just reading max ignition advance (i.e. very low load)...

i use the tec3 standalone. the timing maps are fully adjustable. with the help of the software i created the table. during cruising and light throttle timing is between 18-24 degrees. @ 7000rpm & 1-1.4 bar timing in the table is 30.
confirmed by the data logger.
im trying to figure out if its too much. car seems fine no detonation recorded by the knock sensor.
but ya....people don't understand that there are 3 seperate timing factors. ignition, cam, and crank.
crank being very import. to make huge power.

I ran as high as 29 deg advance @ 8 psi on my JRSC'd B16A. I was also running the stock exhaust which I think allowed for a little more aggressive timing.

any higher than 25degrees @ 6-10lbs/6000rpm on my b16 I pick up slight detonation on my J&S with 91 octane. 10.8-11.5:1 A/F ratio.
