Default retard timing for boost??

Ok someone told me that i should retard the timing when running boost...

I am running 5psi and i was wondering if i needed to retard it or not...

i put the light on it and the pointer is pointing at the red line... that is normal right?

where should the pointer point if the timing is slowed down enough for the boost im running?

you should retard timing Under boost..to do this you need some sort of programable ECU..

The more boost you run the more you retard..This also varies on your setup/combination and usually Compression on the motor is the factor to determine how much timing you substract under boost.

A motor with 10.1 CR will need more timing retard than one with 8.5:1 CR

Forget the pointer. The pointer is used to set the timing at idle.

When in boost, it is recomended to take .75 degrees of timing out for every pound of boost you are running. This is done either with a programable ECU, or something like a MSD boost timing retarder.

do you have a air fuel guage? If not its more or less worthless anyways. You could just retard your distributor fully, and go with it, or you may not even need to retard it anyways. No one can tell you for sure what you need, if you post your setup, someone with a similair one could take a guess, but either way you need to look for signs of detonation.

Not only is the compression ratio a big factor, but so is the fuel octane and intercooler. With 5psi you should be fine as long as you use good gas. If you hear any ping, then it's time to pull some timing.

well you should get a programable ECU and do it right and NOT blow up your motor. but the general rule is -1* for every pound of boost

i have a programably ecu just havent had time to really hook it up yet...

my setup is in my sig....

the intercooler is 32x8x3 for (Jeffescortlx)

and i think i will go with importordomestic and go -1*...

i think .9 per pound works better. .85 for a smaller turbo,.
