Default Street Application: Precision Turbo advice

I've got a 99 Si that I plan on doing a custom street turbo setup on. Currently I have a JRSC @ 9psi tuned with Hondata and 550cc injectors. I plan on keeping most of my fuel management the same (hondata, injectors, pump, etc.) with a different tune of course. I will be taking off the supercharger soon and returning to NA before the turbo build. I'm looking to do the Precision SC series turbo, but don't know which one I should do. This will be coupled with the InlinePro manifold, and hopefully a 3" DP. Goals are around 285whp @ 7-8psi street (daily driven) and possibly ~300+whp at 11psi. I don't know for sure if these numbers are feasible, but this is where I would like to be. I have a high-strung motor (b16a2), so some may argue that full boost at a later RPM may be better for my application. However, given that I drive my baby every day to and from work, I would like to have some pep (given my current instant-power JR setup) in the mid-rpm range. Two turbos I am considering are the SC34 and SC50. Which is better for my plan (or is there another one that may be better suited)? ...and what are the biggest differences (compressor maps, etc.) btw the two? I know the SC34 is capable of making more peak, but what is the lag or efficiency range for the two? Thanks in advance to all who reply.

You might want to give these guys a call....

Arturbo 214-607-9011
Ben "Importparts" 1-800-662-9552
Toni "Import-Palace" 954.445.6273
and Some others...

They are experts in answering questions you may have. And you can always get them on AOL IM...maybe not Arturbo..but the other two are always online. Just bug them! They love bugs.

yeah, I was hoping either or both of them would add some insight to this topic. I've noticed arturbo is the go-to guy regarding anything turbo, but I didn't want to "bug" him via IM...sort of let him post if he wished. (hint-hint) Thanks for the info.

if you want a quicker spool time I would go with the SC50 with a 69 trim they offer a 76 trim but it will creat some lag but make some more hp at the same time there rated @450 flywheel hp.
the SC34 offers the same trims but with a bigger compressor wheel that means even more power just spool time is slowed. there rated at 545

Actually the SC50 has the largest wheel diameter of all the T04E family, or between SC50, SC32, SC34, SC44. The SC50 has a 3" major while all the others have a 2.9".

Now mark, by looking at your set up and goals I would say go with a SC50 with a .l48AR housing but with the T31 76 trim(stage 3 wheel). But you did say in your IM that you wanted 280whp at 7-8psi which probably wont happen. You'll need around 11-12psi to get that. And 15psi for 300whp. Its a comprimise you'll have to face when going with a small AR housing to get the fast spool.

On a built B16 Turbochic made 380whp 300ft. lbs at somewhere around 20psi. Her turbo was a SC50 .48AR but with a 69 trim T31(stage 2 wheel). Not bad for a small turbo.

If you have anymore questions feel free to email me or call.

After talking to Art, we figured that the best setup would be the SC50 w/ .63AR and the 2.559" inducer and 2.229" exducer (76 trim). This will provide ample mid-top end power and stock-like economy during normal driving. I am going to run the InlinePro manifold w/ a 2.5" to 3" flared DP after the PS. Intercooler of choice is Precision's 6.5" (350hp rating). This will be more than perfect for my setup. Like my supercharger setup, this will be a full interior (for now), A/C, and PS daily driver. Eventually, when I get my family car, SUV, I will make it a weekend "fun" car. I plan on running ~7psi street and 10-11psi race. This will hopefully run me around 275-280whp @ 10psi. Just thought I would update the crowd.

Big thanks to Art for helping a man out!

like art said your gonna need closer to 15psi to make 300whp on a stock b16 ( i made 307whp @ 14psi) If 300whp is your goal then make 300whp, as long as you have a 3bar who cares how much boost it takes to make it
