Default pros and cons of running WG open or closed

I was just wondering where the good and bad of running both open or closed wg?

Reason why I ask is the way my turbo sits its going to be a pain to make a tube from the WG to the downpipe so I am just wondering if I can run it open safely

your referring to a open/closed LOOP set up for your wastegate. put it this way

Closed loop = more quiet, little less power, routes back to downpipe

Open loop = loud when your wastegate opens up, nice power, dumps exhaust in atmosphere. depending where this dumps the exhaust, some people complain of a dirty hood on the underside/ dirty engine bay.

To add an additional note, the external dumping setup will not make more power because the exhaust is going under the car...

With the wastegate'd exhaust no longer going back into the regular exhaust stream, the regular stuff that passed through the turbine effectively has a "larger" area to flow through.

That looks exactly like mine except mine exits just below the oil pan.

doesn't it depends where you route it? i thought the corky bell's book said you shouldn't have any loss in power if it's 18" down from the turbo. ? just confirming.

i'd rather have a silent killer

Just extend it with a worm gear clamp on a radiator hose onto you dumptube and route it below the block.

He says to route it AT LEAST 18" from the turbo. The ideal exhaust he says would have a seperate exhaust for the turbo and wastegate.

Yeah, he also says that the best exhaust is no exhaust, right under that picture of the twin turboed porsche with the twin open dumptubes and the twin open exhaust.
Not pratical on a street car though.
