post pics of your welds !!!
It's basically the same welder. Miller and Hobart are the same company now.
However, the Hobart only has a 4 position voltage selector and the Miller has "infinite" adjustment. The 4 position limitation is going to be a pain if it just doesn't seem to work well with the thickness of metal you are welding.

Im looking into learning how to weld. Ive never welded anything before. What is the best way to get started? Do colleges offer elective type classes that would help? What would you reccomend as a good welder for a newb?
is welding with Oxy-Acetylene the ones with the stick and torch? if so is it as hard as soldering(SP), because i cant solder(SP) for crap.

community colleges will have welding classes.... you should just get a book from the library, read it, then spend your tuition money buying a welder and learn by practice!
This is not my best welding but here it is. The pipes are with my tig and the rest are big fat mig welds. This a manifold I just finished for my friend. h22 fmax style.
I have never personally used it, but I have seen spatter protection stuff at welding supplies and home depot made by lincoln... I would have to assume you spray it on the metal and then spatter doesnt stick so you can wipe it off.. kinda like no stick cooling spray I guess?

EDIT:
How the hell do you get rid of splattering ??
The bottom picture looks not too bad, I think that your heat was ok but you need to turn down the wire a bit and thin the beads out a bit. You were too hot when you welded the pipes together. Thats my critique

mig dip is this thick black gel paste that you dip your mig nozzle into to prevent splatter buildup.
EDIT: Beat me to it!

So about how much would I be looking to spend for an entry level welder? Any suggestions as to which one? Im thinking of getting some books and learning by trial and error. Usually lots of trial and lots of error, but thats how I learn most things.
how about the lincoln weld pak 100? 100 amp flux welder, 1/4" steel , for us beginners? its the only one my home depot has.... and i am hoping that for piping/exhaust work only its good enough if you dont care about pretty or spatter, is it strong enough?
and also, when you get really thick welds, can you grind them off? does that affect the strength?

yeah well the turbo is off of mustang and the exhaust housing elbow pointed upwards so i had to turn it to face downwards 180 deg, thats all i could have done. i needed to use the existing elbow cuz it had the wastegate on it and not on the exhaust housing it self, but once i get a external wg then it'll look like the ones you lucky bastards have.

and mine wasn't even as bad as that.
