No downpipe...

Default No downpipe...

i just installed my turbo kit and i dont have a downpipe...i have to drive about 25 miles to get one made and i was just wondering if it would be bad to drive without the downpipe??

Its probably worse that your going to be driving without a tune im assming.

your distributor will probably take a **** after 10 miles or so because the heat is so intense when there is no downpipe. it has happened to me before.

hot exhaust gases + flames + plastic/wires = bad day.

PVC wire insulation will melt over 200F. Your exhaust is over 1000F under load even on a little NA D15. If the instant heat doesn't melt anything, the constant heat will eventually heatsoak everything and melt it. There's also the fact that the inert exhaust gas will be sucked back into the motor, meaning even a light load could make it too rich for the ecu to deal with.

And unless you have an extra insulation under the hood, your hood paint will probably discolor as well. I'd bet there's a place in NJ like Area Rental near me. It cost me $27 to rent a tow dolly for 4 hours to move a car 70 miles, $37 for 24 hours if I needed.
