OK I'm a little confused... I just bought solder wick, 2 capacitors, the resistor, a 74HC373 20-pin chip and a 20-pin I.C. socket. I still need a 28-pin ZIF and the Atmel chips, but what do I do with the 20 pin chip and socket? Does the chip have to be burned, or did I even need to buy the chip? The only thing we've talked about is the Atmel chips... dang I feel like a we-todd right now

no the 74HC373 is a 8 bit tri-state Latch and you can solder it in with no kind of programming.

WTF did I buy then?
Chipped P28 ECU picture from PGMFI.org shows what I bought - looking at the 74HC373 part outlined in red. It looks like a big freakin' 20-pin socket to me!
What I bought is identical to that 20-pin socket seen in the picture.

just solder the 20 pin socket in the 20 pin spot and put the 20 pin chip in there... then do the same in the 28 spot. the capacitors go above hte 20 pin. the resistor goes to the right of the 28. the j1 is below that. its cake.
Okee doke, thanks
I haven't gotten the chip yet so that's probably why I'm so confused. No visuals!
And you guys think this thread has a lot of responses now... wait until I start asking tuning questions

AHHH SIITTT boys and girls i just got my done thanks to the help of T4sol. He did all the soldering. THANKS AGAIN MAN.
I took the car out for a spin and wow, feels totaly smooth transition is flawless.
I didn't want to push it too far being that i dont have a WB yet. But i took it to 3psi and had to pry my foot off the pedal, i wanted to take it to redline SO bad.
well all i have to say is thanks, this is an awesome product!!!
now if i can just figure out what all those numbers mean in the program i'll be alright
I need to save $ for a WB and dyno time.
My setup (for those who care)
00 B18C5 in a 98 EK HB
Tial WG 6.5psi spring
550cc's from RX-7
29X2.5X6.5 FMIC
2.25" IC piping
TurboXS type S bov
3" full DP and full exhaust by ME - PM me for quotes
OBD2-OBD1 conversion harness by Blown90Hatch

After reading many posts here about users getting the same errors I had with the 29c256 started to wonder about the shielding, noise, and the fact that the batronix does not have any memory to store any data on. So if it misses a bit or more of data, those chunks of data are gone. That, and perhaps the port was sending data the batronix did not like for some reason on those chips. So, I went into my BIOS, set my parallel port to SPP from ECP, undid the shroud on my batronix, and plugged it DIRECTLY into my parallel port. And Voila! Programmed perfectly time after time. No errors after many writes. Back to the cable - I can write a 27C256 fine, but the 28C256 started mis-matching data again.
So, happy with that, I went out into the garage with my newly written 28C256, and nada except CEL solid and running poorly... I did a bit of digging, and apparently the 28C256 is not a chip that the ECU likes.
So for all of the Batronix users out there: If you are having write mode issues, try plugging it in Directly to your parallel port, and put the port into SPP mode.
Everyone else: Dont get a 28C256 series chip!

I put together a ghetto hand wriiten website if anyone cares, and added a little html to the faq. I have no place to host it - not that it matters - since pgmfi will be the official place. Anyway, just sharing because I'm bored
If anyone wants it or whatever I'll tar it for you.
edit: for those of you that can't untarI'll see if I can zip it or something (damn winbloze)
edit: Rakka, someone wants to host it - if you give the okay. BTW, check your email.

Sweet if you can do that.... Turbo b18b1 10psi max, dsm450's, garret tb0343

I keep getting the sector 0 error.. You guys think it could be the cable? I will try pluging it in direct tonight and then changing the port setting. I'm getting pretty frustrated with this thing not working..

I was getting sector 0 error and sector 10 error. That fixed it for me!

I'm using the batronix.. all my 27c chips are full so I can't try them.. I will try hooking it up direct tonight and see if that works for the 29c chips.. I really want to be able to tune.. I have had a base chip in for a while now and its pretty rich.. other than that it works good.
