Need opinions on a rebuild =)
Hey guys, my friend with a Drag Gen III GSR is thinking of rebuilding the engine to hold more boost. Money is an issue.. but do you think SRP with Eagle rods will be fine for his Drag III at 10 psi? He also plans on upping the injectors to like 310's and keep the FMU/inline pump setup. What do you guys think? What other ways can he run 10 psi affordably? (no, not interested in thick headgaskets.) Thanks for any replies!

MarkC,
Thanks for that quick reply! Btw, it's SenekaGSR's car... I forgot to ask.. but will the 310's be good with an 8:1 FMU disk at 10 psi? Or should he get bigger injectors for that amount of boost? I know that 12:1 is just too much pressure for 10 psi.

Re: Need opinions on a rebuild =) (Rob92SC)
Im in the same boat on my drag3 2000 si. I just ordered Wiseco Pistons and eagle rods, arp head studs. The pistons i have are 9 to 1 compression. It seem that the compression is the main issue as well as the tunning is. Im still trying to find out how to make a obd2 to obd1 harness so i can get rid of the secondary o2 sensor than i can run a test pipe. what you think?

Re: Need opinions on a rebuild =) (turboex)
Hey guys maybe you can answer my questions. I fixing to boost an integra LS and I was wondering if I should just go ahead and build the motor up before I boost. Like with most people money is an issue with me too.
This will be my first turbo and first engine build. I'm pretty mechanically inclined and know the basics.
How much does it cost to get an engine built? Also what all do you have to buy? I was thinking SRP/Eagle but what else do I need to go ahead and do to the motor while its torn apart? I'd like to hear from you guys before some grease monkey mechanic starts telling me I need this, this, and this to make everything work coming out to be 2 times the original cost.
So please any help for a newbie would be greatly appreciated. Give me links anything to enhance my knowledge on building turbo motors.

Well, I'm not sure how much the Drag III kit will make on a GSR at 10psi.. but I'm guessing 320whp? I'm not sure.. does anyone else know if 310 injectors with 8:1 disc is okay?

It's sort of a black art matching all those parts Rob. I would start with the 12:1 and work your way down. I'd prolly try a 10:1 before the 8. Tell Seneka what's up.

MarkC,
Thanks, I forgot Vortech offered a 10:1 disc! I think that might be the best thing to do... 310's with 10:1. I told him "what's up" (he's my roommate) and he's like "damn, he remembered me?" lol.

Re: Need opinions on a rebuild =) (Rob92SC)
We just built my buddy's car with pretty much the same parts that you listed above, except for JE pistons rather than SRP, but that shouldn't make any difference. We went with 9.0:1 CR JE pistons!
The car is normally driven on 7-8 psi everyday and cranked up to 14 psi at the track. We ran RC 310cc injectors for a while and it dynoed 279.xx @ 7 psi. This was on an 8:1 FMU, not a 10:1 fmu. We were running a little lean at 8 psi. Our A/F ratios on the dyno fell to 12.5:1 - 12.8:1 at higher rpms on the dyno @ 8 psi, so we went back down to 7 psi and it as fine!

I ran 10psi with 310cc injectors and a 8:1 disk and ran fine. But i live at high elevation which does effect power output of the engine. at sealevel you might have more issues. (this was on a stock GSR engine)
