ITR SURPRISE!!
Hey guys i have run into a problem. today as me and my buddies were changing my head gasketr and putting my turbo kit on i discovered that i have ITR pistons. i thought they were je 9.0:1 compression. (thats what you get fro buying a car offline) what would be a safe boost level and what boost level could i max out with allong with a good tune?

its a b18c1. i have a p28 ecu that chipped and tuned for 7 psi, also a set of 450 dsm injectors helps with the fuel, msd full ignition allong with msd dist. type r camshaft and skunk 2 manifold, springs, valves and retainers. im not sure about the rods but i was told that they were eagle. bu considering i was told i had 9.0:1 compression i can be too sure about the rods so i'll just say that theyre stock. i plan on tuning very soon and whould like to know from you guys what to prepared for.
I'd have to say the pistons, specificly the ringlands, would be the weak link. Next in line is the ecu - pre-tuned for a different setup means its just a basemap. It will likely have too much timing on the map. 7psi on a stock ITR isn't all that bad - theres quite a few ITR motors that are boosted, but they usually get a dyno tune.
I just wouldn't feel safe running a pre-tuned map (for 9:1, but having 11 or 12:1), itr cams, and especially DSM injectors. They are known to fail more frequently than most injectors, as well as maxing at 300whp even with a high-flow fuel pump.

Why don't you open up the oil pan and take a looksee about your rods? That way you could at least feel more comfortable. I'd agree with most people here that keeping the boost at 10 psi or lower, allowing to keep the stock MAP sensor, would be safe. If you have a MBC then I would keep it at low boost for DD and crank it to 10 for the track. Time to keep filling up with high octane.
thats some great advice. i wish i could shove the pistons up his... oh well looks like i have to settle for 300hp i guess right? thanks for the info guys. great help!
