Icon2 Issues..

My AEM EMS just gave out on me and I am needing to drive my boosted Ls/vtec until I get a new EMS. I know if I want to run my car with a stock ecu I will need to change my injectors and plug In the ecu of choice..

Heres my question.. Am I able to keep my turbo setup on or will I need to buy a header for temporary use?? I would really like to keep from buying any extra parts..

I'm not gonna lie.. I'm new to the boosted scene and seeking any good advice available.

Is there a way to keep from having boost without pulling the turbo off? I will only need to drive it on a stock ecu for about a month.

Just drive around on it then. If you have a wideband it would help. It really depends on what injectors you are running. Your stock ecu is not going to see upgraded injectors and not run. If you put stock inkectors in, you could technically run it...hell lots of ppl do. Just watch out for boosting on the on ramp to the freeway when ppl are trying to pass you because you cant press down the throttle but a little ways. YOU RISK BLOWING YOUR ENGINE....but it is possible.

I normally run rc 750cc injectors.. I have planned on switching them out for a set of stock b series injectors and a stock b16 ecu. I know and planned to keep an eye on the A/F like I always do.

I've never had to run a setup like this and figured I could get some good info from HT. I'm still shocked that my EMS just crapped out.. Series 1 junk

if you stay out of it, it wont build boost, plus stock ecu as soon as it sees positive pressure in the manifold will cut fuel anyway and act like a boost cut

Good deal! How many of you have had issues with their EMS other than user error? I've been told the new series 2 EMS works a lot better.

I may end up having my series 1 EMS fixed and sold then just buy a series 2 EMS.

you could pull your charge piping off and put on a regular intake to avoid seeing boost in the manifold

I thought of doing that.. I just wasn't sure if the turbo could be damaged from spinning without a load.

The turbo will overspeed with no load on it.

Here's the simple solution. Pull the spring out of the wastegate. You can drive around under most circumstances without producing boost.

No. it won't overspin.. Overspin is caused from sudden change in pressurization from the system. Like going from 16psi --- 0psi from a blown I/C pipe.

If you simply disconnect a pipe, the turbo will only reach vacuum. Keep the turbocharger's oil system hooked up, and you'll be fine.
