Default help...Blown motor??

Ok, about a month ago, I started experiencing some really loud knocking going on, i mean bad. Drove it straight home and it's been sitting there ever since, don't have the time or the place to work on it. But, I did take out the spark plugs to check them. No oil, they look fine. Took a flashlight and look down into the cylinders, nothing out of the ordinary. Would a bad knock sensor or something do that?? It still runs, just some loud knocking, sounds like # 1 or # 2 cylinder, not really sure. Just wondering if anyone had any ideas.. thanks.

how much am i going to have to tear down the motor? i might as well rebuild the bottom end, but i really just want to get it running, putting gas in my new 4runner is killing me..but it is a much more comfortable ride. but i miss the speed and with all the ricers around here, god, i would like to teach them a damn lesson.

ya, I think knock is usually a bottom end problem. checking the plugs and the top end will not tell you anything.

Just pull the oil pan and start looking at rod bearings, that's probably what it is. if that's the case you'll probably need a new crank and maybe even a new set of rods if the one that was knocking has been stretched at all. You can also get a way with turning the crank but its best to just replace it. depending on what motor you're running it might even be cheaper just to replace.

No, take off your oil pan and look to see if you see metal shavings. It will look like Gold Shlager but with metal and dont drink it. Or you can just do an oil change but the metal shaving will be on the bottom of the oil pan so take it off and look at it. When you look up you will see the girdles, but you can probaly peak and look at the rods. Let us know what you find...

Yeah man.... i Had the exact same problem... mine started off with a little ticking noise.. and then all of a sudden it turned into a huge constant knock... loud.... it was the rod bearings.... easy to fix via the oil pan... cheap too.... assuming u catch it in time.... or else you're Fubar'd..

Hybrid, I experienced that a few months ago, from your explanation, U spun a rod bearing or two, U might need a crank, new rods and bearings depending on how far U drove it, The bottom line is that U were either out of oil or your viscosity broke down. I was out of oil, just came off a lift, changing tires, the tire shop guy snagged two bolts off my oil pan, so I went on my merry way trying to scuff the new Yokahamas I had just bought, just to experience that same loud knocking sound. I stopped about a half mile away and called the towtruck. The motor was shot.

great. it still runs, making a knocking sound once in a while at idle. basically the bottom end needs rebuilding, right? oh well, time to build it for more boost.
