what is going on when i hear rod knock? Rebuild
ok we just had a 97 integra motor bored out 10 over and threw in some srp's 10to1 compression and we are hearing a huge knock. at first it was quite with a little noise just like normal forged pistons then after about a min or 2 is got very much louder so cut the car off. the sounds is from the lower engine, and we reused the old bearings, it sthere a chance that its causing with im hearing? and ideas?

siezed something perhaps??
you should replace the bearings and chck teh tolerances very carefully.... hope you didn't cause any other damage...
<--- my theory anyway....

After market pistons normally do make a slapping noise...but its not a loud knocking noise. If its an expensive sounding noise like rod knock i highly recommend you pull the oil pan and check the rods bearings. Maybe you forgot to put one in? If you do have a rod bearing problem dont drive on it..dont even start the car..it doenst take much to distory the honda crank past the point of fixing.

Yeah, don't run it anymore. The noise won't heal itself. Only gets worse. Pull it apart and it will probably be obvious what went wrong. Look to the rod bearings first. Easy to install the pistons or rods backwards. Could be an oiling issue. Are you sure you torqued every rod bolt?

You said you reused the old bearings....are you using the same rods? The stock ones? Or aftermarket?

You will know a bad bearing when you see it. It will be all torn up and full of gouges, broken bits, extremely rough etc. Usually a dirrerent color metal will be partially showing in the gouge.

If want to find out which one is making the noise, start the car and run it. Pull one spark plug wire at a time. The noise will stop when you pull the plug wire of the offending piston/rod/bearing...which ever it may be....Mike
