Exhaust manifold too hot to get painted?!
HI all
I was wondering if any of you painted their exhaust manifold ( turbo car ) waste gate elbow and dump tube ?! If yes did it worked ok and wich paint hav you used.
THx a lot, any entry will be more than welcome.

paint???? you can use the vht paint, but if you dont prep it properly it will flake off.... just get it ceramic coated, looks better and serves more of a purpose/// i hope you werent talking about using automotive paint

ehehe not automotive paint but some high temperature stuff. A friend did it on his car, look really clean but its not a turbo car so i was wondering if the heat of a turbo would be worst.

I bought some 2000 degree black paint made for exhaust manifolds, its working great, no flaking or anything. It was like $15 for 4oz., but that is plenty. Heres a pic---

order some VHT flameproof spray paint...theres a lot of prep work and stuff you have to do to make sure it sticks and lasts, but its worth it.
this is the only spray hi-temp paint ive ever seen that works good.

When you think about it, the paint only has to be good for ~1300F. Anything higher isn't good for the motor, so burnt paint will be an indicator of a problem.
