I'm running a B18B with a 60 trim T3/T4 .63ar in a 1994 DX hatch that is semi-gutted. Currently running approx 13lbs of boost. I had the car dynoed last week and it put down a pathetic 229whp/214tq on a dynojet. As soon as I saw the numbers I knew something was up since:

1. The car put down 200whp on 6lbs of boost.
2. When it was upped to 10lbs the car wasn't dynoed but it trapped 6mph higher than it did on 6lbs so needless to say it was significantly faster. A whole lot faster than what an extra 29whp would do. At this setting it was a pretty close race with a friends bolt-on LS1 TA. I would pull him slowly but nothing real dramatic.
3. Upping the boost to my now current 13lbs and supposed 229whp I pretty much rape his car and can have trouble getting traction rolling in third gear (never had that problem before).


Any of you guys heard of a dyno being off that much? I was expecting around 280whp at least and the cars performance seems to back up that claim pretty well.

There are alot of factors on the dyno but I wouldn't worry about peak numbers. My car dynos all over the place from 220-250whp all with the same boost and setup. My first run is always the lowest and after blowing it out it runs alot better. The temp in the shop and bar. pressure outside also makes a big difference.

When i was in school Automotive school. Our dyno said a brand new dodge neon that we had in the shop was 60 hp max at the wheels. The dyno gave really low numbers to everyones cars. So i can see its very possible to have some dynos dyno lower than others.

what kind of dyno was it?

i had a b18b with a t3/t4e 57 trim (maxrev kit) in a 93 dx, semi gutted lol, pretty much near the same setup, on a clayton i supposedly put down 300/270 at 13 lbs with hondata.. seemed a bit high compared to dyno jet numbers, anyway car ran consistant 12.0's with 1.7-1.8 60's at 118.5 on 22x8x15's...hope that gives u a better idea of where u are

so yah seeing ur prolly right in the same area, that dyno probably reads low... what kind of dyno did you dyno on at 6lbs?

There weren't any leaks that developed in the system from 6 psi to 13psi? That also may be an issue. I have found that when something seemed strange like that, there could be leaks somewhere in the system, where more boost didn't do a helluva lot to change the situation

Was it on the same dyno? I know locally, you can dyno your car at shop A, drive 10 mins to shop B and put down numbers in excess of 10-15% +/-, and this is on the same style dyno (Dynojet) to boot!

What's the whole curve look like? After all, its the whole area under the curve that shows how fast a car is.

Same thing happened to my cousins turbo gsr.

His car feels a lot faster than what he put down at DSR. His final dyno run was 185 whp/ 155 tq. He is running a small t3 (.42 or .48) at 7 psi, tuned with hondata s200. I was shocked at how low the numbers were...haha since my sohc would make those numbers on the same boost setting.

His car is defentantly more than 185whp...
