The Effects of E85: Parts Test
Do you think now since your at this new higher hp (greater cylinder pressures), blowby and/or crankcase ventilation might be an issue?
I would love to try out E85 for myself but unfortunately the nearest station is 45 minutes away...
why people are still trying to find a reason to scrutinize the use of e85 because of supposed affects it causes some of us are really enjoying the use of it.
this is a great test to finally prove that it doesnt affect things the way some might think it does, but beware no matter what some will always try to negate the results

Yeah, gizmo? pure water will do that to your engine. E85 has less than 1% water. Not enough to rust out your motor. And mixed with gasoline it's not as bad but Ethanol mixed with water will eventually corrode certain metals.
I read the thread, that's why I was being polite about suggesting a lid, it was the second time it'd been mentioned "evaporating like crazy." lawl, I'm on page 3 you ninny. Gasoline and Ethanol will not explode in an enclosed container, eg. fuel cans! It's only dangerous if you leave it in direct sunlight and it builds up to high pressure or it is exposed to a spark or flame, the fumes can and will ignite.
Alky in your oil is a very old problem. Ethanol has a low boiling point so if your oil gets above 180 degrees, Ethanol will evaporate. It's especially a problem if you take too many short trips where your Oil is not reaching proper temperate. I'm practically reading this off memory so I can't explain exactly why you have fuel in your oil. I believe Gasoline in oil is fairly normal but never noticed because it not as noticeable.
i think since its exposed to air directly it needs to be swapped for fresh e85 every couple of weeks at the least since E85 loves moisture.
Ive been wanting to get one of the NRG or Exospeed Fuel Cells but didn't know if their cells can handle E85 fine or not.

actually i dont run my car down the track without it being at operating temp the logs show around 192 degrees at the most on a 1/4 mile short trip.
it was explained to me that e85 just breaks it down due to the amount of alcohal in it. 85% is alot of alcohal, and straight alcohal cars change oil alot due to this.

this is a great idea but if i may ask:
by putting all the parts in the same container, wont some things have a chance of manipulating the results. such as, maybe the material it is made of will have a reaction with the fuel? contaminate the fuel? just ideas. i thought to make it more controlled, to use separate containers

Apparently though, some guys running E85 have seen tar buildup. Not all Motor Oil are compatible with E85. It's just like the fuel system there are parts that will cause problems if they're not compatible. And the only way to find compatible parts is to network, use existing information on compatible parts and experiment.
And the explanation about it just breaking down because it has so much alcohol is only half of it. There are oils that don't break down with E85. And E85 is not exactly like Straight Methanol eg, the corrosion differences.
correct im not running the brad penn stuff or synthetic even
im using gtx 10/30 wich isnt very spendy so i can feel good about changing it after every race.
I am getting ready to go back to royal purple though

Your welcome to come over and swap it anytime
I heard from a friend of a friend of a friend who had a boat that got messed up by Ethanol that it is so bad that it will make your motor melt from the inside out in under 6 months and make your muffler bearings fail prematurely, anybody else experience this???
my car has been sitting since September 27th with 3/4 tank of e85 in it. i started it up after i finally got a new motor/turbo setup and well it fired off on the first crank...AFR's were identical to what they were before, i see no water
