EF Top Mount Update
ok guys...well if you're running an sc63 you'll make around 600whp at 30psi and thats pushing the turbo to its limit. a good friend of mine is running this setup and there is no way his 3inch downpipe is hurting top end power.
btw, he's gone 10.6@139mph in a 2400lb civic coupe...so he's really making 600whp.
so for all of you who think bigger is better, you're wrong. plenty of people have made 700 and even 800whp with 3inch downpipes and the dsm crowd (always function over form) rarely runs anything larger than a 3inch downpipe.
but go ahead and run your 4inch downpipe, you'll sacrifice low end power and you won't spool the turbo quite as fast.

Looks really sweet, should be a handful in the featherweight CRX.
Quick question - you're not bracing the SC61 to the frame...? Assuming that's just for the headlight cutout you described...and a really tight clearance that I can't make out in the pictures.

I don't think anybody here is clear on what you think the opposing factor is in downpipe sizing. On the "plus size" side is reducing pressure drop which will also reduce your EM pressure and thus work required to spin the turbine. Obviously there is diminishing returns with increased DP size, and maybe people are only losing 0.0001 psig of pressure loss, but whatever, it's still less. On the "minus size" size is cost, and...what? Fill us in, not just that so-and-so made 8xx whp on a 3" downpipe.

how am i being unclear with what i've said?
a 4inch downpipe is unecessary and overkill. plus it adds weight and makes for a bulkier setup.
it seems as though the owner of this car wants to say he is running a 4inch downpipe...despite the fact that its stupid to do so.

Chet my dad and I fabricate our own parts to be how we want them to, nobody including myself is impressed with seeing the same old ****. If I wanted to do what everyone else does I would have picked any of those cars on the list of what you have owned. Judging from your website where you childishly list all the speeding tickets you have got and the relativly stock DSM swaps you have done I don't think it would be possible for me to value your opinon any less.

yeah...whats stupid about a 4'' exhaust? nothing.
its big, thats for sure...but its not going to HURT power at all. sure, 3'' would probably be fine...but who cares? 2.5'' would probably be fine too...
4'' on a crx is pretty impressive... for the fabrication work alone. (not the easiest thing to build-not much room back there)
chet, your negative opinion doesnt matter. its probably overkill, but its still sweet, and original.
scottek, good job, and i hope to see your setup around chicago sometime, i'd love to check it out. big thumbs up to you and your dad

Insane setup man, that 4 inch dp is nuts. Maybe it is overkill or maybe its not, who the hell cares. Its not like its gonna make your car slow. Props for being original though

if we kept it wtih the same old ****, everyone would still be saying that vtecs and turbos are not a good combo. Either way, your setup is very clean, i know how hard it is fitting all that **** in a little ef
, maybe you should get a custom radiator to fit in the space you have, maybe widend it more to compensate for the lose in width.

for bad *** fab work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!if you never tried it yourself you wouldn't know. my welds still look like armor plated slugs crawling on pipes, me < my welder
i'm not here to take over your thread...but i just disagree with running something that i would consider unnecessary.
here are a few pictures of a crx i've put together...and its nearly finished. looking back, i would have gone with a smaller intercooler, smaller piping and a smaller downpipe simply because i like to run a setup that equally compliments itself.

And guess what that would have gotten you? That's right, absolutely ZILCH except for slower spool with the smaller downpipe. I saw no slower spool with 3" charge piping and a huge OBX intercooler vs. needle dick 2.25" piping and a much smaller volume wise drag core. If you think a bigger downpipe is going to give you slower spool you need to give your head a shake.

a lighter, more practical, less expensive setup that makes the same power.

Or you could just take a fattie dump before you go drive the car and lose the same amount of weight. 5 pounds is peanuts, and that car would make less power with a 2.5" downpipe over a 3" downpipe even at a lower boost level.

well since you aren't done with your setup why don't you sell all those parts that don't "compliment" your setup and buy the parts that you want to get. the guy said he's shooting for 400-500hp because it's his first setup and he doesn't want to shoot too high, that doesn't mean that once he acheives that hp level he won't want to go any higher. with the setup the way it is, he wouldn't have to go back and add mods to it if he wanted to do more later. i think the 4" is overkill right now, but you never know what he's going to do later considering how addictive boost is. plus with a comment like go big or go home, chances are that he'll probably want to shoot for a higher hp level once he reaches his goal...

damn chet...you are really cluttering up his thread. its making you look bad. if you feel so strongly about it, start a new thread debating the pros/cons. dont rain on somebodies thread simply because you think their downpipe is bigger than it needs to be. this kind of crap gets tiring. happens all the time on HT.

lookin good man, not sure if you've done it already, but you should do a little "mini-writeup" on that tilton twindisk setup. i know i saw the MC change and all, but where did you find all of this stuff, searched some places and couldnt find much of anything
anyways cars looking sick, one of the few things i've been waiting for for a long time, cant WAIT to see a video!!
