Default Do I need To Overbore or Not?

Im doing a engine rebuild because I blew a ring.

Simple Question.

Car = 2000 GS-R Turbo w/ 55k miles

Do I really need the overbore (81.5mm) or just stick with the standard bore. I havent pulled the block out and inspected the sleeve, but motor only have 55k so I don't think the sleeves are fucked up badly

most likely you wont need to bore out the sleeves with bad rings,but you ll def need to hone them so when you put on the new rings they ll seal well in the cylinders.

Hone for sure, no need to bore them.

should over bore for good ring seating. Go .20 over. nothing crazy.

If your fingernail snags ANY of the lines/scratches on the cylinder walls, it's a very good idea to overbore/re-hone.

best idea would be to take it apart and go to the shop that you are going to have do the machine work... do whatever they tell you to do. most likely you will just need to have it honed.

Yeah thats true, generally is overbore for a tighter clearance to get rid of blow-by.

But if I don't overbore it a little does that decrease performance and everything? I just don't want to overbore and find out that it won't fit.
