Replacing GE sleeves
I was wondering if I got my motor sleeved with say GE sleeves and I put .20 over pistons in it and I needed to change out the piston rings later on, would re-honing to get a fresh cylinder wall make my piston to wall clearance too large? If I somehow messed up the sleeves would I have to pay another $750+ to resleeve once again or is there an easier way to replace the GE sleeves?
OK, are you asking this because there already is a problem with them?
You can always go to a bigger bore if need be... 85mm is the recommended max bore size, so you will have several chances at reusing these sleeves.
If you just want to change the rings after a certain period of mileage, then depending on what that mileage is, if nothing happened to the cylinder during that period of time, there would be a very slim chance that you could get a new set of rings and be done with it.
However since the bore actually wears out with more mileage, and gets tapered with more clearance at the top, it would still be recommended to go another .5mm oversize to insure a straight parrallel cylinder with a nice crosshatch.
To answer your question about changing out the golden eagle sleeves that you currently have in your block, it would be best to contact them directly, or give me a chance to call Vince and see what he says. (I have an account with them already, but have never had to do this. I have wondered the same thing myself)

If someone has a block that has beens leeved by us and they want to refresh the block with new sleeves, there is a significant price reduction to do this. It is usually cheaper to just go with a larger piston and re-hone the bloc, but if you are at your max, then there is a discount for pre-sleeved GE blocks. Give us a call (909) 592 - 4311 for this info. I do not know it off hand!!!
There you have it!
thanks Vince!!!
If you get a chance, could you look it up for us and post the retail price here?
I will ask what dealer pricing is the next time I call.
GE rules!
