Default Disabling the turbo...

Well, after a Mustang driver hit me in the parking lot yesterday, I need to take my car into the auto body shop for repair... so I'm thinking I want to disable the turbo. There's nothing worse than having those repair shop monkeys going for joyrides in my car!

I was just thinking of pulling off the blow-off valve, sticking a golf tee in the end of the exposed vacuum line (I have the Greddy Type S BOV), and then wrapping an old sock around the exposed hole in the intake charge pipe. I'm thinking of securing the sock with rubber bands.

Does anyone else have any other ideas about disabling the turbo? I can't think of any ideas of how to prop the wastegate open (internal WG)...

remove the piping from the intercooler to the throttle body... this way.. no matter how much they munch on it.. the turbo wont do ****... as a matter of fact.. remove all the piping.. except the filter for the turbo.. and the small piece after the turbo...

put a filter on a stick on the TB too!

cant build boost unless they go out and buy piping...

don't try to get too fancy... you might forget or jack smething up..

Record the mileage before you drop it off!

And tell them if there is more than a tenth of a mile extra on it you'll come back with a freaking louisville slugger lol

no no no...

Don't disconnect the UICP from the throttle body. The quickest and easiest way would be to adjust the wastegate to open all the time. That would just bleed the exhaust gases out permanently and you would at most get around 2psi if that only do to some slight creep.

Sorry I'm sort of new to Hondas so I don't know how the air in these things is measured. If it's after the throttle body then I suppose you can go ahead and disconnect the UICP from the Throttle body, but know that they will be sucking in large amounts of unfiltered air which could potentially be just as not good as them driving around in the first place.

Also, you do not want the turbo to spin freely with no pressure like that. Nothing to regulate the rpms of the turbo. Like said above, set the wastegate to open all the time.

...but my wastegate's an internal one! It has an actuator arm to which the vacuum line attaches. The actuator arm in turn opens the wastegate in the turbo itself. It does not have an external wastegate that can be removed (I already thought about that--how easy would that be! sigh...) How can I prop the wastegate open in my application???

Just take the actuator arm off where it connects to the wastegate and tie it open with some wire or something

Tying the actuator arm open? Man, that arm's kinda stiff... what'd hold ya think? Zip-ties will melt, ya?

hahah... Vise grips... I think super-glue would work too!

Do not disconnect the piping, you'll overrev the turbo.

Just sit there and watch them work on your car, if you can't be there to watch, get a friend to sit in.

Err: Just be there when you can and be sure to record the mileage and let them be aware if there is excessive mileage then they better be prepared to be doing free body work.

Alright... I see how the actuator arm works... There's hardly any resistance once I disconnect the arm from the diaphragm... I can just hold it open.

However...

The turbo just broke this evening, so I don't think disabling the turbo is even relevant now.
I'll be posting another topic about this... this is so not my week... car catches on fire, 'Stang driver creates $2400 in damage, and now the turbo ate it... man...
