so i took my boost up from 3 psi (i know hardly anything) to 7 and put alot more fuel into it via my SAFC well i was running WOT and around 5500 i heard a big bang and black smoke came out... car runs fine i checked the plugs seem to be ok. then i retarted the time a couple of degrees and still detonated could i have put to much fuel into it or do you guys have any other suggestions

Re: (94siludeturbo)
afc's have adverse ignition effects that are increased when u "add fuel" ie. trick the map sensor,
and manually retarding the distributor wont solve that shizzzz.
time for uberdata or crome?
likely ur engine is wrek

Re: (nickromeo)
Detonation sounds like metal ***** bouncing around in your cylinders not a big bang. More than likely (Since the car is running OK) is that you heard a large under load misfire (I.E. Spark being blown out from incorrect gap). Close the gap on the plugs and ditch the AFC asap. Although I've seen BTM/AFC setups yield decent results there are way to many options for you to be using a POS hack.
Cliff Notes: Regap plugs to .030 and report back. Ditch Hack for freeware ASAP!

what do you think i should run instead of the SAFC i have a vortec fmu with the vaccum lines running from the FMU t-ed off to teh fuel regulated and intake manifold... will that suffice for only 7lbs of boost and me not using the SAFC

I would buy a socketed ecu and run Uberdata or Crome. If you don't have the money for the socketed ECU or the means to tune the vehicle or at least put a safe basemap in it at least buy an MSD BTM. You need some means of controlling the amount of timing your engine is seeing.
