Code 73-random misfire... Plugs? bent valves? Dist/Cap? It pulled just as hard as it usually does
Ok to make a long story short. I was driving today normally, warm started the car but the 02 sensor wasn't warmed up all the way I guess. The throttle is ALWAYS weird due to the AFC being untuned..and the fact that it's turbo. So as I was driving I suddenly revved to 3500 by accident then I saw the CEL and I heard a crackling noise for a little while. I immediately set the afc settings to 37 for idle they were -42%. I pulled off saw the code checked the plugs (2 steps colder, don't know the gap) they were black. Reset the ECU.
Drove car was driving ok.....and by chance was going to turn on a traffic filled road, and a guy in a turbo civic gave me the go ahead (You normaly don't see FMIC on civic on the road and we gave each othe the thumbs up) we then got on the highway, and raced. He was 7psi on a GSR motor, I kept up though, 6 psi on SOHC auto here. he could have pulled me but we cut off cause we had to take another exit. My car pulled just as hard as it usually does though.....
Which really confuses me..I'm somewhat worried..car's idle skips 20 or 30 rpm's and it sounds like it's On/off,on/off..warm idle that is.. (it's always low) Please give me some input as I've been searching all night long. I'm going to change the plugs out I get tuned at Inline Pro, Next week. Thanks

does it sound like a WRX when you throw the code? Do a compression test. Hate to say it but your rings/lands may be fried. Mine are, and I throw a 73 all the time. 50% compression in cylinder 3.
good news (for me) is a new motor for my car is only like $300.

I've only been boosted for about a month or so, and I've got an FMU in conjuction with AFC/RC440's. I do not have it tuned though, which makes me a bit worried (about the part throttle driving). No codes today except for 02.
And I'm not very familar with WRX's..so I couldn't say it sounded the same.
I don't really want to spend the money for a compression test/tester right now, as I'm near broke because of school. If I can find someone locally with one, I'll do the test.

Re: (ILLICON3000)
compression tester is $25 at autozone and it takes about 15 minutes to do the test, good insurance before you go waste money getting tuned with a smoked motor
