As for all the necessary tools i have them all. ring filer,bore guage 0-4 mic set 2 torque wrenches,stretch guages, calibers, and more as for spending the money to get good parts always i believe in you get what you pay for. And all my projects have been that way top of the line. this one is going to bed maniley rods, cp pistons, benson sleeves, and my full-race mani and my precision intercooler and many more but all top of the line parts. which is why i started this thread i dont want to blow up a 10,000 dollar motor. lol But as someone on here said once you start her up after doing it yourself i'm sure it's an amazing feeling.

The only part on my motor I didn't do was oversize honing & crank balancing. I actually did my own micropolishing. However they used the spec on the piston paperwork I *specifically* crossed off, so I actually put the last hone on it. It's a daily driver, and has close to 10k on it, abused almost every time and still gets >32mpg. It was time consuming, but it was time I wasn't using for anything else. Granted its not a 500whp beast, it's still running >2x the power it does stock.

I did have experience rebuilding V8's in my early teens though. I highly suggest getting some lint-free rags for wiping down all machined surfaces, especially crank/bearing surfaces. A bit of dust or hair on the bearings will be noticable if you disassemble it and look. The clearances are that small.


Also, make a checklist of things to do in what order. Nothings worse than wondering if you did a final torque on the maincaps or not when you start it up the first time...

I think that if you have good reading comprehension and the right tools etc... that you can do it...

I built my motor from top to bottom! I had a machine shope bore and hone it i told them what clearances i wanted etc... i had him check my clearances with is tools and then i double checked them when i assembled it... i took it one cylinder at a time setting ring gaps etc...
and went by all torque specs from honda for the mains and i checked all bearing clearances with plastiguage to reassure what my machinist checked....


so far my motor runs really good (knock on wood) my car made 460 at 14.5 psi and 604 at 24.5 psi i have about 1800 miles on the car of me beating the **** out of it..... then again i had a really good tuner tune the car T1!!!!
