Default boost creep

my set up: 99 d16y8:edelbrock kit, cut off the 2" flange at the end of the downpipe, no cat, 2.5" exhaust

boost will hold at 7psi until around 6K rpms then it will proceed to creep insanely, i think i saw 15psi once. i've been having this problem since i cut off the 2" flange, coincidential or not it really sucks...i tried moving the wastegate arm out but it still creeps to 10 from around a steady 5.

couple reasons will cause creeping problem:
1) poor turbo manifold design.
2) leaking somewhere.

Thanks

how hard is it to convert to external wastegate?...i think my wastegate port is too small

Im thinking a leak would prolly lead to boost leak not boost creep. But I could be wrong . It's prolly something with the wastegate/vacuum lines. Do you have a boost controller? If you don't, you SHOULD.

why would i want one when it is rising on its own!? its set at 7 psi and creeps to 15...so if i get and raise it then it will creep until i blow up my engine....think so?

You need to do your research on boost-controllers. They are not meant to just raise boost, they also help regulate it.

oh ok thanks...i thought thats what controllers were for. so then whats the purpose of a wastegate if its gonna creep on you? in my case the creeping only started when i took away all that backpressure from the stock exhaust/cat/2" downpipe flange

i will do some research on boost controllers

so a boost controller will help creep? what i'm reading is that it helps spiking....

I am still having Creep/spiking problems. When the car was first turbo'd it would stay steady @ 9psi. A couple of days later it started spiking.(I have a boost cut set @ 11psi.) I have redone the vacum lines and installed a Boost controller. The problem still persists. I can't even get on the car hard because it will bang off of the boost limiter and bog. I am stumped. I feel your pain

i have a 94 integra ls with the same problem. I have a Tial wastegate with a 9psi spring and external dump, no boost controller. It will hold 9psi, but once i get near redline on a long pull it will hit almost 13psi. im kind of stumped other than just putting in an 8psi spring and then see how high it still wants to creap on me.

i called some garrett distributors and local turbo shops, they reccomend porting the wastegate hole. it is a major cause of boost creep. a boost controller will not help. you have to have the hole ported because the exhaust is overcoming the flapper. i'll let you all know when i get mine done.

could u possibly throw up a pic on exactly what your talking about. Show where to port, and how much porting are we talking?
thanks

a good way to determine how much room you have to play with is to shut your flapper, spray paint over it, then open it back up. you'll see where the O.D. of the flapper sits and you know how far you can port from the outside edge

Creeping and spiking are two different things, and spiking can be resolved by a good boost controler, however the creeping can't be solved by boost controler.

I tried to use a turboXS MBC and it didn't cure my boost spike problem. Any recommendations? Thanks

The way I feel is that turbo is so sensitive, any changeing weather condition can effect it, my car usually would spik on me 0.5 psi when weather is cold out, and I will tune the avcr to help a little bit, but once temperture come back up then I have to re-do it. so for the 0.5 psi spiking, I would just let it...
