Bone Stock GSR turbo build for 300-350 WHP
Hey guys I am new to the Honda Tuning scene with little to none tuning experience. I have a 1996 bone stock GSR that I acquired in March 2012. I have been putting 93 octane since day 1 and so far I have not had a single issue with the car mechanically speaking. I did quite a bit of research on tuning it N/A and realized the amount of money spent in N/A trying to achieve a 50 hp gain was not feasible to me. Now I have decided to go with a turbo build keeping my goal of 300-350 hp in mind on 93 octane. This car will be my DD and I want a setup where reliability is top priority. Money is not an issue, I just want input on where to start on a stock b18c1. Things like pistons, cams, rods etc...

Welcome to the site
As for gas Premium fuel is required for all vtec engines
As for the turbo it is possible and saying it runs strong doesn't say much. You'll need to perform a few things: compression test and leak down test. If the results so that the engine is healthy then you can begin looking into performance parts. Since money isn't an issue then I would imagine using the search function wouldn't be an issue either, not trying to be a smart *** but this has been numerous times over and over with success. I personally have a 389whp 95 gsr.

Thanks! Appreciate the feedback. I did see a couple of other similar threads of people starting off stock, but millions of different input of people saying keep stock cams or upgrade, keep stock and slap on turbo and wait until it breaks lol! So I am kind of in a loop hole. I know that I would rather build and reinforce what I have and then slap on the turbo.

As far as kits go. Do you guys recommend any particular one or reputable website. I know you can't go wrong with a Garret turbo, just want to price out the appropriate one.

scroll down..
stock gsr + decent size turbo + nice injectors + tuner ....350whp is a walk in the park.
Should not have to spend more than $22-2500 on a solid turbo kit.

If you dont go with a name brand kit like greddy or turbonetics get ready to do a lot of modification to kale it fit
Moving coolant reseverior , replacing oem fan , moving power steering cooler, cutting up metal front reinforceent brace etc etc
Expect to pay 4000 for kit and ecu and tuning not including labor and misc stuff

Some people in here are full of it.
To make your goals of 300-350whp reliably and daily you need the following:
Solid condition completely stock B18C1 with upgraded head studs preferably
Preferably a Stage ~3 clutch (stage depends on manufacture)
550+cc injectors and 255+lph fuel pump
Tunable EMS
"Quality" Turbo Kit
2.5" exhaust will help greatly but at least 2"...
All other modifications or upgrades are COMPLETELY unnecessary. Greg Carter from Go-Autoworks is probably one of the best affordable solutions you will find. He will go out of his way to help you and works with your needs. The Street or Tuner kit will meet your needs especially if you get the GT2860RS upgrade.

When I say nothing else is needed, I mean things like: Catch can, internals of any kind, bolt ons, ect...
PS - In the future, do NOT say money is no object. Everybody knows you are driving a Honda. Money is an object. If you are questioning if you need forged internals or not, then you can't afford them.
