I think companies underrate their products to limit the liability on their end.
Go ask Eagle what they think their rods can handle. I'm sure they wont say they are rated into the 500-600hp range. But we all know we've pushed them that far.

Same as any engine builder, you're not going to Warranty a full race motor to last years of competition. Even though its built for extreme conditions and you know it can handle it, you just dont want to take on that liability when so many factors can affect longevity. Basically, you wanna cover your butts.

 

What happened to Pocket Rockets other percent?

oh, Mase lowered it to 80% and then deleted most all my posts relating to him...then he put the rating back up to 100%, used to be 101%.

Wow I think it's funny how whole posts are deleted when someone questions there abilities of tuning and is defaming there business, isn't it the samething that's going on with the original post of defaming A company's product when it wasn't even used for it's proper application, I mean come on this whole thread should be deleted then, because it is give people the wrong idea about Carillo.

Mods shouldn't beable to abuse there abilities for the own personal use that's F'd up

This is not a personal shot at anyone, just stating what I see going on here and if anyone takes offense to this and want's this deleted PM me..

moron he said he made a mistake already hes bashing on there customer service. I think carillo F'd up by telling earl to F-off when u pay so much for a product they should at least give him the right set for a better price. Carillo just lost a potentially good customer.

Ya I'm sure that was the exact words to him, I have nothing against anyone on here, but he order the wrong rods they didn't send him the wrong rods, why is that there responsiblity.. and if you want to call name's I quess your the moron for not understanding that.

Eagle has told me the smaller bolts are good to 300whp and the larger bolts 400whp. I have never seen an official number though.

And I was just curious about the percentage thing because I have never understood it. A mod should post the official "if you do this you will lost these points" Why does Mase who is a mod have 80" and some people have over 100%? I am just curious not trying to start anything.

Thats very very interesting, as Ive seen those Eagles pushed well beyond that. Not quite the 250/600 gap, but that is interesting nonetheless. I wonder if any of the vendors here have any official info.

Second, my motivations are PURELY to keep this thread on topic. I have no financial or personal interests here, Im a dude into cars with a smidgen of knowledge and a thirst for more. Nothing less nothing more.

That is so true... 200HP isn't 200WHP either, so heck, these rods may face danger if you put them in a mild JDM ITR motor pushing about 175 WHP...lol I rather take an Eagle rod and mill and grind them to become 411 grams and still pull off 300WHP j/k

Rory Breaker is not a jerk mod at all. I have spoken with him via PM and if anyone cares is very open minded and would be a dude that I would buy a beer given a chance. Next time your in Phoenix look me up.

I think Eagle as stated earlier under rates thier mods big time. I have used them with 7/16 bolts in a domestic motor (406) and they were rated at the time of 100hp per cylinder. 800 with a good ole Chevy aint bad. :-) Or Exotic.

Yup, a good product is only as good as its customer service... Engine parts are mostly affected by this, whether it is a defected rod, wrong specs, slight error in machining tolerances, etc... If you can't even communicate with them, it gets you nowhere. These aren't $250 rods, so even if the customer is at fault, it is never acceptable for one company to basically tell their customer to f*ck off. Carillo's are awesome, but I have purchased Pauters and so did my engine builder for the past 2 years with good communication. Carillo's aren't the end of all rods, so I find that Earl's post is quite informative to let me know that I would rather move onto the next company when I sink in over $600 for a set of rods. Not that Carillo rods are bad, but there are other companies to choose from which you'd get both a good product and good service.

Oh, go ahead and call Carrillo, they are quite helpful.....same corportion that owns JE pistons, Wiseco Pistons.........go to the source and get the facts, why rely on what someone says?

a way to end the comparison is do a comparison, not just talk and more talk and that so and so made 40000000 WHP on $150 used 1988 rods, but something substantial, like a real controlled envirnment destruction test done objectively and unbiased.....compare the same size, dimetionally identical rods, bolt size and wieght of an Eagle rod and a Carrillo rod......maybe Earl can finance the test? LOL

 

I dont know about you, but MOST people buy products based on word of mouth... whether it be steak or it be a car part. They do no want to spend 600+ on a part to find out later it may have problems. Thats why its so hard for new companies to come up in this hobby.

And Im sure carillo is a great rod, I have never personally used them, but I have heard great things about them, but I am also sure that just about every company is really helpful and nice BEFORE you buy the product. I personally and know of others that once a company gets your money, you notice they arent as helpful...

Jesus, it's like playing telephone in here. At this rate, the 6th page of this thread is going to say something like "Carillo said I should go f*ck myself and drive off a cliff."


I think what it comes down to is:

1. Earl spent some serious cash on the rods. The rods failed. Earl called Carillo, they said they wouldn't replace them because Earl was to blame for using the wrong rods. End result: Earl pissed, Carillo not to blame.

or

2. Earl spent some serious cash on the rods. The rods failed. Earl called Carillo, they were rude, disrespectful, and wouldn't give him the time of day. End result: Earl pissed, Carillo to blame for lousy service.


So the issue isn't whether or not the Carillo rods are good, it's whether or not their service is.

I've talked with Jack Sparks of Carrillo at the PRI show a few times.Acually I mostly listened.This guy knows his product.If anyone has a question about their product or service,this is the guy I'd ask for.

Since you love Carrillo rods why dont u do the testing. I would not buy these rods cause they're not worth the money. Why the expletive spend $600 for rods that are worse than stock ones.

See its not so much that he used the wrong product, but its the service that comes with the product which i see as the problem. As for straightening thoses rods, they could have given hima better price but that would result in them not profiting..business is always business....
