Default Bent Carillos

These are Carillo A rods I used in a turbo build. The 2 rods on the left bent after 4 dyno pulls and 3 quarter mile passes. When I talked to Carillo, they gave me no love and basically said I was stupid to use them for big power. Yet no where on their site did they say anything but great things about them. They offered to fix them for something like $160 per rod. When I mic'd the beam of the rod, I discovered they were actually thinner than Manley All Motors. They did suggest I try their Super A's when they come out. I will pass on ever buying their products again.

Funny how they would use that as an excuse... I guess we all bought forged internals to make 180HP like factory

Thanks for sharing

Before the h-t nut-swingers get all bent out of shape, what did Carillo actually say? There's no way a manufacturer of forged rods is going to say their product is not intended for big power.

Unless your power level was something obscene, like 600+ whp...

do you think you got the all motor rods (light weight) instead of the rods for boosted apps? i think they sent you the wrong rods. this is weird because i was stuck between carillo and manley rods and now i see this..............<shakes head<
I hope things work out for you dude thanks for sharing.

I made 604whp+ on Eagles. They seen 34psi. I thought carillo was suppost to be one of the top in rod manufacturing? Would also like to know the power level they were seeing.

alot of rods like eagles fail at high rpm or from detonation....not neccesarily from a hp level

and all motor rods are meant to be light more then strong....

I don't want to give out the power but it was way above the 600 level. After the race, the motor was making noise. We tore it down and everything looked perfect except there was a funny wear pattern on the piston skirts on 2 of the pistons. There were no signs of detonation on the pistons and the bearings looked perfect. That is when we noticed that the rods did not look straight.
I think the Carillos would be fine for an allmotor application. I would rather run Eagles than Carillos in a boosted situation, however. I will take the blame for choosing the Carillos as I fell for the hype without doing enough research. The engine is now living fine with Pauters. I was just extremely disappointed in the lack of customer support and information coming from Carillo. I'm not telling anyone not to run them, just sharing my experience. This happend several months ago and I have held back on posting this until my emotions were under control on the situation. Everyone should make their own choices.

Don't all the Supra guys run Carillo rods for their high-HP setups?

Way to go ahead and try to wreak another companies image Whats funny, is in the Carrillo catalog it says plain as day that you shouldn't use these in anything more than a mild all motor build. 50hp a hole to be exact. I would blame myself for the poor choice of rod useage.
