Anyone by chance know the stock psi of a KKK K26 turbo?
well thats it. LOL. Thats all that I need to know. Well, and if the boost is higher than I want to run, how would I go about lowering the boost other than an external wastegate. This turbo does not have an internal wastegate. Anybody know how I would lower the boost if it is too high. I dont wanna run more than 8 psi for right now.
Thanks in advance,

It has a stock wastegate.. But its actually external(kinda).. If you pull the wastegate off you can apply pressure to it and get an idea of when it will open.. Lower it by heating up the spring inside of it and making it shorter..

Is the wastegate actually on the turbo?
Because the KKK K26 turbo that I have has essentially a hot side and a cold side. I know what an internal wastegate, and it definately dont have one. I knew that already, but anyways.
There is nothing else on the turbo. Is it seperate from the turbo. I got this turbo off of like an 86-87 audi 2000. ( I think it is 2000)

Re: (civic2nr9177)
the wastegate is what determines the "stock" psi of the turbo, if you run that turbo with no wastegate as it is you will most likely be spiking to 20psi plus. so, with the turbo itself there is nothing you can do to it to turn down or turn up the boost on it, the turbo relies on the wastegate for the venting of the exhaust gases.

Well I know all of that. I know exactly what a wastegate is, what it does, and what it looks like. I was just asking if it came seperate from that turbo because this one doesn't have one.
I am currently already boosted on my d16z6 with a saab t3 turbo. I just want to swap in the KKK K26 because it is bigger. And yes I have all the things to do the swap. Except a wastegate.

Ill take a look at my friends KKK and see how its setup.. From what I remember the wastegate on his is a separate unit.. Its not like most other turbos with internal wastegates.. I guess you could say its a stock turbo with an stock external wastegate..

Re: (tgreaves)
yeah, the audi 5000's or whatever they were that came stock with them featured a 30mm external wastegate. so you will have to add one to use this turbo with your previously internally gated saab t3.

Aight thanks alot guys.
I have another idea though. I also have a t3 turbo off of an older Nissan 240 or 280, I cant remember. But It definately needs to be rebuilt. And I was looking at it and the KKK K26 and they appear to be almost the exact same size. So what I am gonna do since I dont have anything better to do, is take the cold side of the KKK K26 and see if it will fit into the exhaust side of the nissan t3. Then I could use that one because the nissan turbo has a wastegate. If they dont fit together then I will just put them back together and do something else. I think it will work though. If not then it will be very close. I will let ya'll know how it works out.

I didnt really have much of a choise with heating the spring.. The stock wastegate on my turbo is set to 15 psi and I couldnt run that much.. I wasnt going to special order a new spring for my wastegate thats if they even make one..
Plus I had the spring shrunk evenly by a machinest and so far it works great..

It does not have a wastegate. I dont have the wastegate because if I did then I would use it. So I guess when I pulled the turbo off of the audi I must not have seen the wastegate or something like that because I do not have one. I will go back to the junkyard that I got it from and see if I over looked it. What would it look like???? Something similar looking to a TiAl wastegate? Or does it look totally different? THNX

Re: (civic2nr9177)
it is about 3 inches behind the intake manifold and stands up vertical. it is attached by 6 13mm bolts, three of them attach at the manifold and then the other three attach to the downpipe via a flexpipe which is bolted to the wastegate.
it will look identical to this one.

Thanks alot man. I will try and go and pick it up tommorow. I can make it work on my car right? 93 Honda civic hatchback SI (d16z6). Using the audi KKK K26 turbo with an hf mani. I know I will have to weld a flange and pipe off of the mani and everything but that is not problem. But other than that it will work right?
thanks alot
