ANOTHER custom turbo kit question thread
Ok, first let me say I have about $2,000 ready to spend on this.
I read through http://coolazz.tripod.com/turbo.html and it got me excited. It doesn’t seem too hard to do a custom kit.
At FIRST it will be a turbocharged b16, low boost, maybe 8psi on the track.
About a year down the road it’s going to be a fully built b20vtec, 15 +PSI.
Now I consider myself an intelligent person and I think I have the knowledge to do this. I just need verification on these parts before I go spending all this money.
1) Turbo, New or used?
2) Manifold and down pipe, shoot Ben@importparts.com an email for prices?
3) Charge pipes, what bends do I need, ill order from JC Whitney or something
4) Inline fuel pump and FMU, where and how much??
5) Intercooler can anybody explain these measurements and what they mean?
6) BOV Ben again?
7) Wastegate one big email to Ben? Hehe
8) Oil return and feed lines, who do I talk to about these damn earl fittings and ****, they make NO SENSE TO ME!!
9) Boost controller theehee I have seen several for sale cheap here on ht
I know I am missing something....
Just go to home depot for all the pipe connections and crap?
ANY information would be helpful. I am looking to start purchasing next week.
Thanks everybody! Dark side here I come

NEW, NEW, NEW, did i mention new? or if you feel brave, buy low miles and rebuild, but you will want a NEW hybrid anyway.
2) Manifold and down pipe, shoot Ben@importparts.com an email for prices?
custom, most out there are overpriced, but i am biased as i have access to food grade SS and a master tig welder for free (my pops) :D
3) Charge pipes, what bends do I need, ill order from JC Whitney or something
you will need to measure it on the car, 2" is the standard ID on the turbo to IC pipes and 2.25-2.5" ID on IC to TB.
4) Inline fuel pump and FMU, where and how much??
used, but you will want an aftermarket ECM anyway, so no FMU, pump is, iono holley, about 200?
5) Intercooler can anybody explain these measurements and what they mean?
IC has basic dimentions as in height, width and depth, get the one that fits. other stats (important ones) include the CFM rate how much air it flows, pressure drop related to CFM, and efficiency also directly related to other two.
6) BOV Ben again?
bosch, untill you make massive PSI
7) Wastegate one big email to Ben? Hehe
ben it is
8) Oil return and feed lines, who do I talk to about these damn earl fittings and ****, they make NO SENSE TO ME!!
check this
simple, or go here and look around, give them a call as well, they'll set you up right.
9) Boost controller theehee I have seen several for sale cheap here on ht
electronic ones are the best, no boost creep or spiking (depends on manufacturer)
I know I am missing something....
injectors, ECM, and ...ECM, like hondata or SDS.
good luck

Thanks for the reply.
Next questions, About how much should a new turbocharger cost from garrett or turbonetics? 600-800?
Anybody have the part numbers from jcwhitney for the piping? i can cut if i have too.
I wanst planning on going with an ECM untill i see big boost, would a VAFC, big injectors and a 12:1 fmu work? (oh and 330 RC injectors)

Thanks for the reply
Ill send slowass4dr an im and see what he can do for me,
Hmm..thats a good point, the perfect solution to this would be somebody selling the pipes off a drag turbo kit. know anybody?
and i was actually gonna go with AEM EMS when i boost the b20vtec.
and thats a little more than 500$...

you know where I stand. Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you. I think DamonBoost aka Damon was or is selling his DRAG IC and IC piping. Send him an IM.

i didn't even get pipes from jc whitney, i went to napa, and bought a few mandrel 90's and some straight's, and i've got around 35-40 in my piping...and as far as management goes, i'm running a drag III fmu with an 8:1 disc, rc 310's and a nos 255lph in-line pump, and it's held up to 15psi no prob (<--15psi was an accident)...all togather i've got around $500 in my set up, and i'm by far pleased
