Default AFC hack + GM 2 bar

I've got it running well and had boost up to 11 psi until a charge pipe connector let go.

I want to be able to use the AFC as a boost gauge, anyone know of what sensor type to use?

You can use any map sensor with the afc as a gauge. You just need to know what the sensor type is..and what type of MAP it is.

Although...remember MAP reads air pressure NOT pressure over atmospheric.

So for instance at 5000 feet over sea level its gonna read ~3psi less then at sea level.

I know, I'd like to know which sensor type is equivalent to GM 2 bar.... I'm searching the **** out of diy-efi.org's archives, but not coming up with much. Who knows if/when Apex'i will reply to my email, either.

FYI, 2600' altitude is approx -70 mm/Hg on my car. On flat land (100-300 ft I guess), I typically get -20 mm/Hg or so. Your sensor calibration, circuit resistances, etc, will vary.

Honda MAP = 1.8 bar sensor scale, limited to ~1.65 bar due to construction/design.

GM 2 bar MAP = 2 bar sensor.

If I keep AFC set to PR-6, then I get 1.8 bar values displayed, which won't be accurate in the least. I'm not kidding when I say I'd like to use my AFC as a boost gauge - that's really all it is good for to me - so I want to know *which* PR-x is a 2 bar. I figure one of them has to be.

And diy-efi.org just went down. Lovely.

Maybe i'm thinking of the wrong thing, but isn't the Honda MAP sensor limited to 11-12psi, less than 1bar?

To you 1.65 bar would mean .65 bar.

I was messing around with toyota map sensors a short while ago.
They are supposed to read up to 14psi, so they should be similar to the GM 2bar.
Apex lists them as sensor type 3, which i was using. Seemed to work well with
450s at about -20% using 3-in 6-out. I made up a quick jumper harness,
but only had a chance to play around with it for about 15 mins.

Pretty much the honda is a 2bar sensor. Just that it doesnt like to read past 11-13psi over sea level (ie the top bar). So will never see 5volts outa it.

-14.7 -> 0psi is the first bar, and 0 -> 14.7 is the 2nd bar. Its 0-5 volts. You could replace the honda map with a GM 2bar and it wouldnt make a difference.

rioninja, thank you.

liam, Honda MAP is on a scale where the max output is ~11.8 psia... a true 2 bar sensor would read ~14.3 psia. I think the difference is enough to worry about - I sat down by hand and recalculated the MAP scalars in Ghettodyne as well as Uberdata (my car is OBD0/OBD1 hybrid) to get the ECU side of things correct. I'd really rather feel like I didn't waste a pile of money on the AFC, and be able to have an accurate boost gauge.
