its not neccesarily the 5th gear by itself that kills motors, its the extra load that going the speed you are in 5th which is usually 115+ puts on the motor.
same would happen if you had a auto tranny flooring it goind those speeds.

It's the load that's placed on the motor, but more-so the EXTENDED amount of time that the load is placed on the motor for. Your EGT's will continually increase when doing a 5th gear pull, and if not carefully compensated for, detonation results, and when your motor detonates when it's under the stress of a full boost full throttle 5th gear pull, things break. Same goes for automatics. It's not the MPH, it's just the fact that to go those speeds, the motor is extrememly stressed. Remember, wind resistance increases by speed^2; Simply saying, that doubling your speed squares the wind resistance, and therefore, the amount of power it takes to keep accelerating.

Because the motor's are built to handle it. It's that simple. If you build a honda block to take it, it will, just the same. A 5th gear pull never killed a stock honda motor, right?
