Drifting is Gay!

The tire companies love it cause they can make money off morons that believe that drifting is a sport or art form. The magazines like Import Tuner love to push drifting into the minds of young ricers, and old fools because look how many tire companies advertise in their mag.

And what the hell is up with the retarded looking drivers?? Ya Guys i am cool check me out opening my door while i am drifting y0.

Drifting is a joke and anybody with half a brain can realize that it is purely a waste of tires.

That doesn't look like anything on the main course, probably the Jefferson's circuit.

I assumed the competition was on the main circuit. Since I didn't give half a **** I didn't pay attention to where they were running it.

It does look more like the back section of JC though.

The competition was on the main circuit. They were holding the "Drift 101" on the JC.

Edit: oops, too late

Rally driving requires it due to surfaces and control/friction. In rallying, its easier and faster to slide into a turn over gravel/mud/snow. However, it is only done when necessary, due to the fact that you lose time sliding and rally cars are tuned to be driven in the fastest manner possible, going straight. Thats why you have specialized/studded tires for non-tarmac. Nicky Grist was actually talking about it on the Rally Turkey recap. He mentioned that over any other surface, you would lose time, however when rallying, it is faster than slowing down to take the turn. You don't see Marcus Grolholm, Seb Loeb or Petter Solberg doing that **** over tarmac, because its not fast, but dirt it saves time in the long run. With any race, its faster when you drive the car the way it is supposed to be driven.

Someone else mentioned above, you don't see Jensen Button or Michael Schumacher drifting. Point proven.

Drifting comps are okay, I mean they are entertaining, but I'll stick with my WRC and F1 anyday. Its all about show and style.

Oh yeah, did I mentioned that NONE of them drift DURING the JGTC races? Have you ever been to JGTC in person???? I have!

Even Tsuchiya wouldn't drift in the top series of racing in Japan, if he does, he will get thrown out by his team for finishing last. When you are going sideways, the tires are no excelerating. The only exception is where you need a bit of power slide to carry the momentum and use the rotation for a fast corner.
</TD></TR></TABLE>

Why would he need to drift? It's not a drifting competition. It's a JGTC race.
Your question is just like asking. Blah blah is not spinning around while he does the 50 yard dash.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Crack Monkey &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">The day I see Schumacher or Buton or Montoya drift around Monaco in early Summer is the day I'll believe drifting is fast.

Drifting is to Racing as Gymnastics is to Decathlon.

I watch gymnastics at the Olympics only because NBC will occasionally slip and show some track or cycling. Same goes for drifting.
</TD></TR></TABLE>

Drifting is not ment to have the fastest time around a lap.

Drifting is a style. Just like you said about Gymnastics. There are many competition that are judged by style. Freestyle BMXing, Skateboarding, Snowboarding, High dives, Figure skating, etc. check out the 2004 olympic. There are many events judged by style and by quickest time around a measured track.

It's just how the world works.

the only people who think drifting is faster are stunnas. same people who 2 years ago had a body kit and chrome wheels on their civic.

do not pidgeon hold everyone who drifts into that idiotic category. you may not like it but thats no reason to bash everyone that does it.

I thought drifting should be left to crazy Japanese guys and Anime until I very recently spectated a drift "competition."

Now, I'm alot more open to it. Seeing a Sil-eighty slide around a corner at 60+mph, with the driver in full control of the car was a pretty cool thing to witness.

I think everyone who is criticizing drifting for not being a legitimate "auto sport" should go, at least once, to a local drift event. All it took was one good driver to change my mind.

You mean "pigeon hole"?

And there is no need to pigeon hole anyone. I can re-read this thread and the dorifto lovers seem to do that on their own.

I don't need to - I already know about it. I may not know the different styles since to me drifting is drifting but I understand its point, its roots, its appeal and its stigma.

Understanding just makes me more willing to dislike it.

So i have to agree to what some of the people said about drifting? Or do i voice my own opinion? I should just bull **** to look cool with the "drifting stunna"??

I thought you would be smart enough to understand that everyone has their own opinion and the fact is that Drifting is not ment to have the fastest time around a lap. Wait, nm. you're just too caught up on the honda-tech mentality.

Einstein - go back and read the ******* thread! It is fans o' the drift who are saying it is the fastest way around (ie: the thread starter) so don't start swinging your **** at me.

You are entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to think less of you because you like drifting. End of story.

I have seen "Grip" cars at Laguna Seca in the Corkscrew.... yes a downhill turn... and there is no way a car loosing the backend could get down that hill faster... Drifting Competitvely is a waste...

Drifting for fun in the rain or snow i can handle...
