I used to drive an Integra. I had the car for 4 years, autoxing the car the whole time I owned it. Then it got stolen. That was almost three years ago. I have had my 240SX nearly two and a half years. I started autoxing the car the same week I got it, crappy all season tires and all.
Being a part of the 240sx community, naturally drifting was everywhere. So I signed up for a drift day just to see what it was all about. Wow, you have no idea how much fun I had that day. I was hooked!
That I think is what drifting is all about. Sure its about car control as well. But mostly about fun. All you nay-sayers; why are you into cars? Why do you race? Is it to beat other people? Just about bragging right to say I was faster than who ever? Don't know about you people but I race because I LOVE it! It is the most fun thing I can think of! I like going fast, I race karts, I like driving mountain roads ( no, not touge, just driving ) when I was a kid I bombed hills on bikes, roller blades, skate boards, even shopping carts. I just like going fast.
Drifting is not racing. Drifting is NOT the fastest way around the track. Anyone who says otherwise has no idea what they are talking about. I know because I drift and grip. My lap times have come down a lot because of the skills I learn from drifting, and my drifting gets better from knowing the right way around a race track. I can push harder and take more agressive lines now. So what is the point of a drift compition? What is the point of a free style motocross compition? BMX, Skatebording... you name it. Nobody is going faster than anyone else, so what does it matter? Its about style, and skill. You get judged on Speed, Line, and Angle.
Yes drifting is in the spot light right now. Sorry, these things happen. Why do you suppose Hondas are so popular? Because a fad caught on. Damn you guys have a short memory. Look at the early 90s when people where starting to modify FWD compacts and bring them to the drag strip and out to the street drags. The domestic guys just LAUGHED. Tiny motors, FWD, no way. They also got mad. Just like all ignorant people do when they don't understand something, or dislike something so much for what ever their reasons. Then the whole thing got big. Guess who is mad now? All the guys who have been doing it already, thats who. Its not their underground deal anymore. The media is on it, the cops are on street racing, magazines pop up, companies jump in and start making parts, ******* APC ****** out plastic garbage.....Then Fast and the Furious comes out and EVERYBODY is pissed because now Hollywood is the pimp whoring out your thing, what you are into.

Stuff it.

Do you like having 3 brands of high quality parts to choose from the next mod you want on your car? Forget about the sea of low quality cheap stuff, and ebay no brand stuff. Think about that. High quality requires research and development. R&D requires money. If there where not hella people buying parts for these popular cars and popular motorsports, there would be no money funding the engineering required to produce a race worthy suspension, or brake kit, or cam shafts. So next time you start pissing on about this bandwagon or that, think about the nice parts you have on your car. If hella other people didn't want the same parts for the same racing you do, you would just have to go and figure out how to make it yourself.

As with all fads, drifting will come and go. The enthusiasts will stay behind and it will be theirs again. Have fun driving!
To you dude. You seem to be a drifter that actaully gets it.

I used to admire the drifters i heard about japan, back when it was always down on the mountain roads.

I have absolutely nothing against drift shows. Its a fun "hobby".

But drift competitions hold no respect in my opinion.

How can you have a judge, score a driver unbiased event after event, on how you drag your *** in a car.

On a trick bike ...yes
Jumping off a diving board ..yes
On a skate board ....sure why not
In gymnastics ....ok
Figure skating ....Si senor
Talent contest .... yeah

But in a car. Come on, that like having judges vote who wins in a 400meter race.

Judge #1: "Well i think runner #1 should win, he picked his feet up higher, and he has a more graceful running style, and his *** doesnt jiggle when he runs"

Judge #2: "thats bunk dawg ......its good when their *** jiggles"

Lets face it. About 70% of the non-pro drifters that are out their now, who no real idea of the basics of "grip".

You can ask them, "do you road race" , and about all you will get is. "nah....i drift"

The real truth is. Kids are easily influenced, and lately the craze has been anything, rice or JDM, and well ......where did drifting come from ????

Exactly.

Somone needs to tell them, that Initial D is just a cartoon, or you know "recreation", its NOT real racing.

Fads really do come and go.

It is not unbiased at all unfortunatly. It is very subjective. A big part of how a drifter scores is how much that driver wowed the judges. Then get to the level where there are crowds watching, and the crowds reaction is considered by the judges.

*** draging? Nope. Think of steering with the throttle.

Thanks for the we are all motorsports enthusiasts, can't we all just get along? hahahha

Here ya all go. The first car is me. Nor Cal Drift Academy compititon. I made it to top 8!

Congrats.

Buts its still a "show", not a competition. But at least your having fun. I'm sure you will at least still be drifting, even long after the fad has died down. to you for doing cause you like it, not because its the next hottest trend.
