but do you know most of the top drifter from japan are JGTC drivers?
oh yeah, did i mention JGTC?
</TD></TR></TABLE>
Oh yeah, did I mentioned that NONE of them drift DURING the JGTC races? Have you ever been to JGTC in person???? I have!
Even Tsuchiya wouldn't drift in the top series of racing in Japan, if he does, he will get thrown out by his team for finishing last. When you are going sideways, the tires are no excelerating. The only exception is where you need a bit of power slide to carry the momentum and use the rotation for a fast corner.
Drifting does not equals Power Slide.
But Drifting is all about car control. I think it will help me to initiate rotation when I need it for road racing and also to understand the dynamics of a rwd car, hence I'm building one and do plan to drift with it.
SCCA is sanctioning Drifting series, NASA is starting a drifting school and U.S. Drift series. Which one is faster around the corner shouldn't be compare as apple vs orange, both drifting and road racing take alot of skill to accomplish.

too many of you are caught up in the honda-tech mentality.
"if it's being shown on tv as something cool, it probably isn't."
for most of you honda-tech members...i think band-wagoning is "gay". just because someone with 2000+ posts feel one way, doesn't mean you have to. have an opinion fellahs.
just how some of you like to run pointlessly in a straight line from one point to another, or go around a track big circle continually making left turns and seeing the same points over and over and over and over..., or go around a course with your interior-less, x-barred, taped-headlighted cars, or even taking their old battered pieces of **** american cars and ramming the hell out of each other to see who's survives....some people DO like drifting. some people like to smell tires being disintegrated, some people do like watching cars do controlled powerslides, donuts, and coming within inches of the wall w/out totally ruining their beautiful 240sx.
it's their taste. it's their style. those same people might feel that drag racing is "gay". those same people might feel that auto-crossing is "gay". f*ck it, because you don't like it...is it really that "gay". maybe they feel that we're "gay" because we're on the internet discussing their sport while they're out there shredding tires.

What I feel is the most gay about drifting is the people who like it and how they get mad at me because I don't like it. I think it is gay how they will argue with me telling me that it is a faster way around a track EVEN THOUGH they have never driven on track and the only drifting they do is in a parking lot at 15MPH.

no one is mad at your for not liking it. again, it's about taste and style.
people who argue that it's a faster way around a track should just /themselves. they watch too much tv.

Sorta like at Hype-ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR-Fest 3 years ago when the assclown drifter in the TT Supra was driving like an *** on his way around the track back to his start point and he lost it and balled the car up in turn 3. There were no corner workers since they were supposed to be driving back around slowly so he sat there long enough for a bunch of us to climb the berm, point and laugh hysterically at him.
He wanted to fight us because evidently it wasn't his fault that he didn't follow the directions he was given about how to NOT drive back to the drifting start area.

i think you need a hug.
it's okay. you don't have to like drifting it's okay. we understand.
everyone chip in and buy drew a "I  Drifting" sticker.
you should move to ny. there is absolutely NO drifting done here. there's a lot of destruction derby, though. potholes always seem to win. lol.

I have a hat that says "US Drift" on it, to which I wrote "Sucks ***" with a Sharpie. That is good enough.

ahh....the memories
another classic you may remember was the clown that slammed into the jerzy barrier at Lowes showing off his 'madd skills'. I need to dig that tape out again....

From: One by one, the penguins steal my sanity.
The day I see Schumacher or Buton or Montoya drift around Monaco in early Summer is the day I'll believe drifting is fast.
Drifting is to Racing as Gymnastics is to Decathlon.
I watch gymnastics at the Olympics only because NBC will occasionally slip and show some track or cycling. Same goes for drifting.
BTW, I'm a multi-year autocrosser, current NASA-VA instructor, and former SCCA club racer, so I've got more time on track than 95% of the people in this thread (since somebody seemed to imply earlier that non-drifters knew nothing about high speed driving).

I believe it went like this..
*slams into wall*, silence, sets in that the driver just slammed into wall while mad tight drifting, Loud cheers.
Then after he was done with his runs, he looked over the damage and realized he has an Fed up car and nothing to show for it.

ah, I just went over speed bump last night <must added it over the weekend> at about 40mph....on my 12/f 8/r coilover, I think my header is now trashed and shocks leaking.
NY sucks for driving.

From a spectator's point of view, the point of a drifting competition is seeing who ***** up big time first. It's very amusing stuff.

This was taken at hype-R-fest this past weekend. The guy went flying straight into a concrete barrier lined with tires. He pushed back the concrete barrier several feet in the process. Needless to say, the kid's car was done.

destroying your car is highly possible in ANY motor sport. no exceptions.

Only because its hard to imagine them actually managing to use a grip driving style on LOOSE gravel
They drift because the surface forces them to, so in that situation it is faster... because its the only way.

In the d1 style drift, it about style points. Whether you can hang with somebody, and get in really close. Or how perpendicular you can get the car without losing it, and also how long you can hold the drift.
In Touge style drift, which is downhill, its about racing. The idea is that you can traverse a corner faster in a controlled slide (drift) than with grip racing because you minimize, through drift, the need to hit the brakes and spend more time on the throttle. </TD></TR></TABLE>
They dont drift when those drivers race in the JGTC, they know the fundemental way to drive the fastest, is to keep traction loss to a minimum.
The more traction you lose, the slower your exit speed will be.
Grow a brain dumbass .......
